I just tried to read the cycling article. I got as far as the "cycling while black" section suddenly felt like checking the stickiness of my scotch tape was a better use of my time.

The hardest thing about cycling, especially long distance cycling, is the focus needed to keep going. When you are reaching mile 50 out of a 70 mile ride, that's the point you just want to pull over and have a burger. I'm not so sure other "cultures" have that type of hard wiring for perseverance.

Hey all, I've only been in this group for a couple of weeks, truly a newbie but hey, that's OK. Recently I had the pleasure of meeting some members of our group in my area and it was great. I encourage all newbies to clear your schedules for the meetups; make them a priority. I know you know this already, but experiencing it is great: this movement is a group effort and every bit of participation, even something as simple as having a beer with like minded folks, keeps the ideas alive. Ideas=plans=actions.

That's weird. I don't know how deep or effective the indoctrination to libral thinking is in Sweden, but I have to beleive that the conversation you had with them probaly planted some kind of seed that will germinate into them changing their veiws. keep working on them.

I've found that you don't change minds over night, you just keep putting logic in front of them. If they are smart they will see the light. If they have even a glimmer of an appreciation of history, there is hope.

Even in mixed ethic groups I always hit the surface level topic by saying that we should all be proud of our heritage. Then I usually break into all the great things Europeans have done (in a subtle way) and I can see the looks on their faces that they know I'm right.
