yeah but the more avid shooters tend to go with either a 22 or a pistol calibre ar lookalike

22lr is a great beginners practice rifle, after that its not really good for any purpose. Hard to get any thats reasonably accurate beyond 50 yrds, and then its not much cheaper than alternatives, next to no recoil so you dont really have to learn proper breathing, trigger control, and recoil control, and as a whole, its really not that effective a round.

thats why a lot of people will move on to a .17 HMR, 22 winmag, or even .223 at an enthusiast level

i still use my .22, but its largely because im in canada and they let me use 10 rnd'ers in it

there was another more obscure small calibre that is allegedly really good for accuracy as well, cant remember which one it was..

im looking at creedmoor or 6.5mm

not legally allowed to hunt with .223 for anything larger than a coyote in Alberta

keep the .22lr for the chickens, get a 6.5mm or perhaps NATO 7.62mm or other similar calibre for deer

for example, the left claim to be the bastions of environmentalism in Canada, and use their tough stance on the gathering and processing of natural resources (namely oil) as proof of that. The Ontario and Quebec have strongly opposed the expansion and even the existence of the oilsands industry in western canada for example, refusing to allow pipelines to be built, including one to ship east for the rest of canada to use. The funny thing is though, they still consume oil, a lot of it. They instead import it from places like Venezuela and Saudi Arabia, bringing it up the st lawrence river in bunker fuel burning tankers. What sense does it make that the country with the worlds second largest proven oil reserves is an importer of oil? Again, its not actually about environmentalism, its about virtue signalling. It looks good, and the people they do it for are to ignorant to whats actually going on to see how fake it is.

Canada is no where near even close to exhausting its oil reserves

we've barely scratched the surface

and if we truly cared about the environment, we would focus on producing it in house, where we can hold the industry to account for both environmental impact and workers rights

moreover, the clear message from our left leaning politicians has been that they intend to restrict oil production until it dies, with no want to start it back up.
