> The British have food?
@Max4Z I mean it’s a reach calling it food but yes
> What are you guys thinking about these lockdowns starting up again
@DirtyBird bro the uk lockdowns are killing me i just want to go Christmas shopping
> @toasby That sucks. I hear most middle aged women try to report anyone to the cops for "violations" whether anyone is or is not
@mightytrump there’s a house near mine (I’m in a uni flat atm so not the flat) who literally sits on a chair on her drive and quizzes you on where you’re going when you leave the house
Our lockdown should be ending on December 2nd what are the odds they extend it over Christmas
Someone at my uni got fined £10,000 for having three people over because they classed it as a party
Bear in mind these three people were on her course so she would’ve seen them in classes anyway
There’s places where people are less bothered I think universities are being super strict because they’re being blamed for the second wave
> @Max4Z Not only is the government more oppressive with the lockdowns, they even have use tax dollars to trash the general public with socialist garbage via the BBC
@mightytrump my family have refused to have a tv license for about twenty years now to avoid giving any money to them
> So ur from texas, but ur in UK for university?
@Max4Z no, I’m from northern england, but I have a Texan father
> What is a tv license
@DirtyBird basically to watch most live tv in England you pay a fee sort of thing that basically just goes into the BBCs pocket it’s a farce
There’s a thread for guns I believe
Hello, I like guns however I’ve only ever been able to train with air rifles thanks to uk gun laws
I’d totally be a cat being a dragon seems like effort
Dragons have to fly around and find their own food cats just get fed lie around all day
I’d just have to hang around a house for a bit u til they either adopted me or took me to a shelter
bro I wouldn’t have rabies
But feral is easy to care for, you just have to slowly socialise them
Depends, some can turn around in days, the younger they are the easier
I am talking about feral cats y’all nasty asses
Wait is tyt the young Turks
I’ve seen a bit and bobs of theirs but never really got into it
I can get behind cheese but I swear it’s really expensive in the us
I love cheddar cheese
Extra mature cheddar cheese 10/10
> But only if you are of legal age
@SomeSouthernGuy jokes on y’all the uk legal drinking age is 18
Mozzarella is good for mixing into things like Mac and cheese
And just eating grated mozzarella fulfils some sort of animal instinct
Parmesan
The powdery one?
> how does eating mozzarella cheese fulfill an instinct?
@mightytrump man just get some grated mozzarella from the store and eat a handful trust me
It’s so good
Is Irish cheddars any different to regular cheddar?
I’m lactose intolerant and still love cheese man
I get brick sized cheese from Asda
And it’s English cheese so it’s not like 50% plastic OR costs a weeks wage
It’s Walmart’s baby sister
Weird question might be stupid but do y’all have coco pops in America
And do you find it funny that our supermarkets have an American section with pop tarts and jelly beans
And root beer
Like how weird would it be for a Walmart to have a British section with some pies and pasties
I love pop tarts tbh but in England the only flavours readily accessible are the basic strawberry and chocolate
pokemon go to the polls haunts me
Over watch seems fun tbh but if I get too into a game I forget to do anything else
Have any of you guys heard of the Monster Raving Loony party
I mean probably at some point
They’re a jokey political party in the uk and it makes for some really funny lineups on election nights
Do expand
It’s a nice feel good concept they’re just unaware of the reality of it
Has anyone ever tried a sweet potato jacket
10/10 would recommend
*laughs in British*
I swear my uni is a breeding ground for leftist ideology, you either conform or be ostracised
Wait is that not a saying y’all use
University
Could y’all imagine having an iq similar to room temperature (for the record room temp is 16-18c, I guess this joke mostly works in the uk)
The NHS over here is okay but not perfect, but I’m not very educated on the matter in the US
> @toasby aren’t you waiting in line for years for simple surgeries?
@DJ Sullivan J.D it depends on the surgery tbh, but the worst waiting lists are usually for counselling or similar
I’ve had eye surgery on the nhs but it did take about six months from the problem arising, then through referrals, then through all the consults to get surgery
Overall not bad but I think to most people without recurring conditions the nhs is used for emergencies like broken bones
My family has switched to private healthcare a couple years ago bc one of my parents job covers it but if I broke a bone and an nhs ambulance turned up I wouldn’t say no
I guess it’s just something ive always had so other perspectives are new
What is health insurance like, is it all expensive or are there cheap options?
How much is it per year? Like for an average person with an average job?
I’ve got recurring issues that the nhs used to cover but since I turned 18 I have to pay for my prescriptions rip (I have Hughes Syndrome, it’s nothing elective)
Congrats on quitting 🙂
I know lots of people who call for free healthcare make it sound like it’s a lot more expensive than that
I sometimes google the cost of certain procedures (like childbirth or a broken arm) and I struggle to believe it costs that much, would insurance make things like that cheaper/free?
Yeah that makes sense, competition creates the need for developments
10k for an MRI? That’s pretty bad
Ahahaha just one dude with his mri machine in like an old laundrette building
the American dream
But yeah I get that, let competition be competition and then people would have to lower their prices to get any people
That’s crazy
I pay nothing but bc I live a bit further out my waiting times aren’t bad to be seen by a general doctor
I just live in a random village (fun fact: an England football player you to live there) but it means our local nhs services aren’t overcrowded like city ones
Wait do you get snow??
I love love love snow
I like the cold because you can get warm easily but when it’s too warm I can never cool down
I’m paying nine grand a year for a law degree that at this point bc of COVID restrictions is a glorified Netflix subscription to crappy lecturers
That looks so calm though, and way better than a city
Cities scare me, I always feel like I’m going to get stabbed or robbed and the air is literally thick with crap like it’s harder to breathe in a city
I’d love to jump into the snow
Computing and design
The closest proper city to me in Manchester and they don’t age a great track record
> The closest proper city to me is Manchester and they don’t age a great track record
@toasby
Tried to edit the spelling rip
I have an iPad and and Apple Pencil, now all I need are some art skills
My god I can only imagine if some of the thugs in British cities had guns
I’m trained and got my marksmanship award for the record but only ever with air rifles rip
Dark alleys are gross anyway
I like some of it
But your portion sizes in some places do make me giggle
Is he a cute dog?
What breed? I love big idiot dogs
Medium dogs too
That’s the best type! We used to have a GSD and he was the best
Whilst we’re talking about it can I send a photo of him idk the rules on photos in this server rip
This is Dexter, pure GSD ❤️
