Hi Zentz
We don't know each other Zentz. I'm wondering what the point of this chat is?
I've been going on forum.philosophynow.org a lot recently. I'll say something, but most people don't believe me. I'm like: "You aren't supposed to guess at philosophy? That's dumb."
Hey grover. welcome.
What is pangburn?
Does he have a youtube channel?
Foot in mouth. I could have searched that.
Do you consent to this procedure (i.e. circumcision). *Baby cries*
Oh is that over? When's the next one?
I'm sorry. I'm actually getting over schizophrenia, barely. So sometimes I'm a little slow.
I actually think coffee is helping a lot to wake up my brain, but no one will believe me. Catch-22.
Why do they debate Christians still? Isn't that like, dumb? If someone has their brain lodged in that stuff, they aren't coming out.
What do you believe in now?
Be careful with that skepticism, m.miller. Some things that don't seem true are true. Not Christian dogma, but some things.
What do you guys think about STEM versus Critical Theory?
Skepticism has orders of magnitude and directedness. Direction might be like: there was no moon landing. Magnitude might be like: Atheism versus agnosticism. No god or might be a god.
It got worse i think
Critical theory, as Eric Weinstein put it, seems intent on watering down the STEM fields in colleges and universities. But they are atheist too. Just anti-racism. It's like Jurassic Park: the other two raptors, you didn't even know were there.
I agree tom.
Is it live?
I usually just watch Joe Rogan. I'll have to check that out too.
For whatever reason, I never looked up Weinstein's channel. Good to know. Thanks tom.
OK.
Ha ha. Bret went on Eric's show.
We were talking about the Weinsteins: Bret and Eric. I don't think they are related though.
Are you pulling my leg?
He went on the Joe Rogan Experience, or I wouldn't have found him. It's a big internet out there.
What's his PhD?
I'm in the dark about Evergreen. Can someone sum it up for me please?
o sh--
Sounds like the military.
The motivator lololol
If I didn't know better, I'd say that to be a molotov cocktail.
Sh--, now I'm on a list!
Sorry Hypnotoad.
I don't know if my answer is predetermined or not.
I don't really have a choice in what to think about determinism.
I don't understand how free will works, but apparently, I can choose stuff.
@Smoke is determinism going into pangburn?
or offtopic discussion?
I find it interesting what the Bhagavad Gita says. Not so much the parts about having a soul. But "Do your duty without thinking of the consequences." If you just do your duty, whatever that might be, without worrying about the consequences, then you might have free will. (until arrested).
Ed wins the Turing Test.
I want to discuss how psychology works. Any takers?
They say that we are creatures of habit. So how does one decide to do something other than what is ingrained? And what if the decisions themselves are ingrained?
I'm just looking for whatever people think.
Most rational people might have several thoughts on the matter whether they know the truth or not.
If I try, I can do something new for a while. It doesn't always stick though.
Umm, old dog new tricks. Something else is getting in the way that you already do. Also, you might get distracted by someone else who needs your time/energy. And you have to be mindful of what you are doing in order to decide differently.
Your brain supplies dopamine when you find a solution that you have been seeking. You might "fall in love" with the idea. That might work. The carrot and stick reaction may be a programmed response (Pavlov). If you disregard the orders, you get a stick. Usually, if you disregard the stick, you get a bigger stick, then a bigger stick. So you're programmed to take the orders seriously. At least that's what I observed in the Navy.
Delayed gratification is useful if you think about the reward constantly when the situation arises.
Myself. I brainwash myself. If you repeat the *truth* often enough. Really grind into your head that you can and how you can, plausibly. Usually works to think about your day, and then use a mantra to fall asleep. Not joking.
Fight fire with fire, so to speak.
If there is a Devil, it's commercial television.
Bye Zentz
You don't take the Bible as a skeptic. You take it as a book written for people who had little idea of what a skeptic would be.
"God creating man in his own image" just gave away the plot. Evolution happened under influence of the Bible, and especially Judaism and Catholicism. When you live in shit, it's hard to be clean.
dreadboi23, Really?
Why don't you carry the burden of proof?
Prove the dogma. I think it's false.
All roads lead to the Bible.
Cherrypick a scripture to "prove" the dogma.
I thought that the reason not to be Christian was so that you would not have to have a silly morality (e.g. purity rings).
@Buddha We need a distinction between Christian morality and Biblical morality.
Their pastors
They say they get it straight from God, but probably from seminary.
They always have their twists and turns (dogma).
"Turn with me to.... " *Reads the verse* *Interprets the verse*
Pretty standard.
I'm listening on youtube.
Isil.
How does he have one Asian eye?
The Amish don't need money. They make their own stuff.
@ThePangburn please do youtube instead of twitch.
@m.miller take it on faith. Live.
I was trying to be nice.
That was great. She was smiling.
m.miller you can overcome anything. Believe in yourself.
You don't have to have faith in science. It works.
I can believe whatever I want to believe. So why not believe the truth?
To some extent every axiom is an assumption.
@kaizen An axiom is like a postulate in geometry. You base your logic on it.
Axiom: all lifeforms have DNA. Deduction: I am a lifeform, so I have DNA.
cool
Christianity: you can't be moral without our dogmatism. Me: I don't like dogmatism. It's immoral.
I just don't like people telling me what to believe and what not to believe.
What do you want to debate kaizen?
I'm of the position that atheism is useful, but not all the truth there is.
Atheistic reality exists (e.g. scientific principles, industrial techniques). Magick also exists.
OK Magick is the idea where you can do a spell, believe in it, wait a season to a few years. Then it affects atheistic reality.
The evidence is hard to come by. You would have to have been around me when I lost my mind enough to do magick, and then watch the outcomes.
At the beginning of 1999, I knocked down two things that could represent towers. Can't really prove the causation though.
I also had a conversation with a woman who was trying to get me to kill Bush in 2005.
Sorry, I don't have solid proof. Just anecdote.
I'm not claiming a god of the gaps.
It's hard for me to do scientific experimentation on it. Especially since the first part involves being in a weird state of mind.
Well, imagine trying to explain germ theory to someone without a microscope. It sounds really weird, if you think about it.
What's your point?
Because?
Right, my theory would require quite a bit more evidence before being considered established. That seems wise.
