How do you insert an image here?

So what does any of this have to do with economics

My take on economics: buying power and opportunity

If people have both the economy will boom, if they have one but not the other it will stagnate, and if people donโ€™t have either, it will collapse fast

I just read a bunch about evolution

Oh

Well yes then poverty is due to a lack of opportunity

People canโ€™t ever better themselves due to things they cannot control

So, for example if college was accessible for more people, and corporations were held to paying higher wages, and healthcare was covered by tax dollars, more people could rise from poverty

Lowering the opportunity costs allow for more people to enter the pool, and more people are able to make more money, which they spend on more things, allowing companies to hire more workers, and so on

Then itโ€™s their fault

Doesnโ€™t mean the programs shouldnโ€™t exist for those who want to put in the effort

Well if they have no hope, itโ€™s hard to see any opportunity is there

And right now there really isnโ€™t

Both

Iโ€™m from a rural area, people are resorting to hard drugs because thereโ€™s nothing for them here

Our towns are falling apart, people are moving out, the only thing holding this area up is tourism

Yes

Vermont

And I will admit my state has it pretty good considering.

But there are those towns that are hurting bad

For me there is I can afford to go to college

What about my friend jarrett whose family couldnโ€™t afford to send him to state school then lost everything in a fire?

What about those farmers losing their land due to a city focused agenda

Ah but he went there one semester

He tried to better himself

But he gave up because he had no hope

He couldnโ€™t afford it

It was too much stress

Ah so you think poverty is a psychological problem?

Donโ€™t you think that the state of the economy is what is messing with people rather than their minds?

I consider myself to be an Agrarian Social Democrat. Pretty much, focus on keeping family businesses alive, foster hope and opportunity for the next generation, bust the banks and monopolies, hold corporate power in check. Pretty much a Teddy Roosevelt type

So I do think the economy is what is affecting the mentality of people . If youโ€™re looking at the stock market youโ€™ll see something that doesnโ€™t correlate with every day American lives

Only the coastal elites think the economy is doing well

I have fixes

Raise the minimum wage. Free public college, Medicare for all,

To name a few

Increase union power, break up large corporations

Protect small businesses and family farms

Well thatโ€™ll foster competition

Walmart

Is that a nice job?

Amazon

But they run family businesses out of town

For example, Haverhill New Hampshire

Thereโ€™s a Walmart

Completely destroyed the downtown

Amazon runs bookstores out of business

How can there be a strong economy of competition, when corporations are allowed to run freely and gain infinite power

You sound like a communist, people shouldnโ€™t be โ€œhappy to have a jobโ€, people should be able to feel capable of more

Jobs are created but theyโ€™re dead end jobs

Ah but if you canโ€™t afford it then what?

Well simply break up the big corporations

Ideally Iโ€™d advocate for worker owned co-ops with government set limits on the number of franchises

But

Well yes theyโ€™d flee the sinking ship and with the opportunity, make their own business and foster a stronger and more fair capitalist system

But the problem is that there are no small businesses anymore

No one goes out thinking theyโ€™ll be able to start a business thatโ€™s not a YouTube channel

Well I would love to myself

But you see, the market is too flooded with existing companies with way too much money

Well, there are few repair shops around here

Because itโ€™s all jiffy lube

There is no community connection anymore

Small town USA is dead

The American dream is dead

And what fostered both of those things?

FDR

Itโ€™s because those in power were corrupted by the wealthy

Where are you from

What state though

Itโ€™s not that people canโ€™t start one, itโ€™s that they canโ€™t really succeed

But is it now? No

Not in my area

Small businesses just keep getting run out

Shut down

So youโ€™d rather lose the small town feel, for a few saved dollars and more workers on minimum wage

Oh I know that

But our farms are closing too

Itโ€™s not viable anymore

The big factory farms are too efficient and they donโ€™t care about the consumers, the land, of the animals

And Iโ€™d much rather get my food from a farmer in my state than factory bred from across the country

But farming shouldnโ€™t be high tech

No it would lose the connection between people and food

If thereโ€™s no care put into the production of food, then the quality goes to hell in the name of effecency

Okay Iโ€™m guessing you live in a city

Okay how many people in your town

Okay. My town has less than 1000 people in it

And this is why trump won. Because no one cares for the middle between hick and city

What have I not researched?

Sure I havenโ€™t written a paper on the damage wrought by big companies, but Iโ€™ve seen it with my own eyes

And Trump hasnโ€™t helped anybody but his pals

Just another corrupt elitist

Heโ€™s running farms out of business as we speak, with his tariffs and all

Iโ€™m in classes most of the day

Probably around 1 EST

For a little bit

Yes

I donโ€™t usually debate about small business

Iโ€™m more of a Medicare for all debater
