cheap plates weigh more and are thicker

you can get 5lbs rifle rated plates that are only a half inch thick but they are made of advanced materials and cost 700 apiece

standard ceramics you can get a good deal on would be like .8 and 7lbs

I would never use steel for body armor

spalling will fucking kill you

a lot of people die from getting arteries cut in their thighs and upper arms

not worth the squeeze

the spalling layer isn't 100% effective

the steel itself may shatter and become frag

like I said, the best thing to do is to wear whatever the minimum level of armor is for the threat that you are anticipating

if you think people are gonna be shooting at you from distance, wear plates

if you're gonna be cqb with handguns you are gonna want soft armor with better coverage

I mean think about it like this, the greatest threat to your health is getting shot in the head

but ain't nobody wearing kevlar ballistic helmets
