Probably does mean that they don't wish to speak to you then, people generally aren't honest enough to be up front about that sort of thing. You'll just stay hung up about it if you don't press the issue more.

When is the last time you spoke with them

It'd still be best if you just asked them honestly. If they do care about you and it really is just a misunderstanding they'd probably feel the need to clear it up, and if they try and brush it off again you can just be persistent until they give you a proper answer. It seems unlikely that they'd go a month without trying to contact you if they really did want to talk to you, but then again that's what you are doing too.

Alternatively you could just ask them if they want to play a game or do whatever you used to do together and pretend like nothing has happened, you might catch them at the right time and not have to deal with all of the dramatic nonsense.
