^^^

2018-04-29 08:47:35 UTC

this

2018-04-29 08:47:36 UTC

Itโ€™s a trait, not a feature

2018-04-29 08:47:55 UTC

I love open source software where it exists
I'm not telling anyone to give me free sโ€ โ€ โ€  that's panhandling

2018-04-29 08:48:01 UTC

^

2018-04-29 08:48:01 UTC

consumers do not care about open source and it is therefore irrelevant to 95% of people

2018-04-29 08:48:07 UTC

Lol

2018-04-29 08:48:10 UTC

Yeah, it does not mean, it is better. However, I could potentially look, what it is doing.

2018-04-29 08:48:33 UTC

ive seen great devs harassed by fossfags begging for free code

2018-04-29 08:48:37 UTC

Like using wallet with closed source for crypto currencies. Just stupid using this.

2018-04-29 08:49:18 UTC

i know its now 10x harder to accomplish even the most basic task and i have to memorize an entire programming language just to operate it, but hey, it was *open source!*

2018-04-29 08:49:19 UTC

in a perfect world we'd have perfect transparency

2018-04-29 08:49:25 UTC

You can tweet your private keys, equally stupid.

2018-04-29 08:49:27 UTC

i wont disagree on that point

2018-04-29 08:50:05 UTC

open source is just tech communism

2018-04-29 08:50:16 UTC

most people want the mainstream platform because its less work to work with in teams etc

2018-04-29 08:50:22 UTC

gibs me source code

2018-04-29 08:50:23 UTC

Woke radeon

2018-04-29 08:50:28 UTC

yes, moar free code

2018-04-29 08:50:38 UTC

fโ€ โ€ โ€  the politics

2018-04-29 08:50:49 UTC

gib gamez

2018-04-29 08:50:49 UTC

as if anyone is obligated to share their intellectual property simply because it happens to be in code form

2018-04-29 08:51:02 UTC

You dont have to do it on your own, there are security experts out there. The possibility of somebody looking at the code, makes it more accountable.

2018-04-29 08:51:03 UTC

id love to see an 'open source digital art' movement

2018-04-29 08:51:17 UTC

what about cc0 assets

2018-04-29 08:51:26 UTC

OpenGameArt.com or something

2018-04-29 08:51:28 UTC

@radeon you penis drawing?

2018-04-29 08:51:34 UTC

Creative Commons.

2018-04-29 08:52:05 UTC

I worked with an Open Source Rapper once but he's kinda a pain in the ass

2018-04-29 08:52:09 UTC

but it has no traction. There are sites like Jamendo for CC music, but not well known.

2018-04-29 08:52:17 UTC

open source kills off careers for legitimate coders, why write your own code when you can copy paste someone elses work?

2018-04-29 08:52:24 UTC

The fuck is that @M4Gunner

2018-04-29 08:52:38 UTC

How do you open source rap?

2018-04-29 08:52:59 UTC

@M4Gunner my point was that intellectual property is respected unless its code.

2018-04-29 08:53:00 UTC

Well Carmack would give code up once the value proposition for the engine sublicensing had run out. It can be pretty important to get your money while you can

2018-04-29 08:53:06 UTC

I am not a native english speaker, so this is hard for me to explain.

2018-04-29 08:53:20 UTC

What are you then?

2018-04-29 08:53:21 UTC

I'm sorry, I'll use less slang

2018-04-29 08:53:56 UTC

However, there is a difference between copyright and exploitation rights.

2018-04-29 08:54:45 UTC

And there are different license models. You, for yourself, can never loose your copyright. This is the case in the EU.

2018-04-29 08:54:46 UTC

also, controversial topic, but android is the only non-windows OS with an ecosystem even remotely large enough to be useful, and x86 android distros exist

2018-04-29 08:54:59 UTC

What the rapper did was upload a bunch of raw vocal tracks, as well as a long thing he wrote about what kind of music he would want someone to make with it. So anyone could download a vocal and make a song, but he wasnt very helpful in recording.
He would record stereo to only one channel, and when you ask him about it he would say "I'm not a producer bro sorry"

2018-04-29 08:55:18 UTC

Linux on desktop is fringe.

2018-04-29 08:55:35 UTC

On server-side and for development it is more popular.

2018-04-29 08:55:45 UTC

@M4Gunner he sounds like a lazy fuck

2018-04-29 08:55:45 UTC

thats its only use lol

2018-04-29 08:55:55 UTC

Early in his career several notable international acts worked with him, and then everybody decided he was a shite troll and fโ€ โ€ โ€ ed him properly off.

2018-04-29 08:56:02 UTC

if you arent a programmer or computer scientist then you have no use for linux

2018-04-29 08:56:16 UTC

yeah but linux is still *cool*

2018-04-29 08:56:20 UTC

i threw out my linux install disks just because i had no use for them

2018-04-29 08:56:51 UTC

You can do 99% of your daily computer routines with a Linux system.

2018-04-29 08:56:54 UTC

yea sure its neat but i dont have a need to act like im superior because my OS is obscure

2018-04-29 08:56:56 UTC

I keep an Ubuntu flash drive, just Incase

2018-04-29 08:57:14 UTC

@radeon but my moral superiority

2018-04-29 08:57:18 UTC

how do you know someone runs linux? don't worry, they'll tell you.

2018-04-29 08:57:25 UTC

There is always a tradeoff between freedom (Linux) and living in your parents house (Microsoft Windows). ๐Ÿ˜›

2018-04-29 08:57:27 UTC

If you needed a ton of running systems you might consider linux in lieu of buying 20 win licenses

2018-04-29 08:57:38 UTC

Second is more comfortable for you.

2018-04-29 08:57:53 UTC

freedom is having the tools you *want*

2018-04-29 08:57:54 UTC

Linux will never tell you "fuck your current task, I'm installing updates and rebooting, bitch."

2018-04-29 08:58:04 UTC

Haha

2018-04-29 08:58:27 UTC

Mac: Linux with usable interface

2018-04-29 08:58:33 UTC

I always roll my eyes when people struggle to get simple things to work, like routing audio to stream shit.

2018-04-29 08:58:37 UTC

linux tell every new user "fuckoff and give me the root password. know what that is?"

2018-04-29 08:58:51 UTC

theres also a tradeoff between downloading literally any program you like and having a guarantee it will work the first time versus having to plug a monitor to your laptop because fucking *Linux Mint* can't make sense of Nvidia drivers

2018-04-29 08:58:54 UTC

Yeah, Mac OSX is nice, but I hate Apple.

2018-04-29 08:58:59 UTC

Only Ubuntu does that. One of the reasons I don't recommend Ubuntu.

2018-04-29 08:59:19 UTC

NVidia drivers are shite for me right now anyway

2018-04-29 08:59:21 UTC

Tfw windows canโ€™t update on your computer

2018-04-29 08:59:23 UTC

also telemetry

2018-04-29 08:59:40 UTC

GNU/Linux has a nice permissions system, that Ubuntu defeats by telling everyone "start by opening a terminal, then `sudo gedit /etc/...`

2018-04-29 08:59:41 UTC

nvidia itself is shite

2018-04-29 08:59:41 UTC

windows absolutely cannot update on my system

2018-04-29 08:59:43 UTC

*faps harder to Linux tears*

2018-04-29 09:00:11 UTC

you need to fucking make a geforce account just to update drivers

2018-04-29 09:00:17 UTC

Lol

2018-04-29 09:00:18 UTC

No FreeBSD guys here.

2018-04-29 09:00:21 UTC

but it was very hard to install win7 on Skylake

2018-04-29 09:00:40 UTC

gsync is dead so no adaptive sync unless you wanna drop $200 more than an erquivilent freesync panel, also dx12 says hi

2018-04-29 09:01:12 UTC

well if anyone wanted to talk about how cool FreeBSD was, i'd hear them out

2018-04-29 09:01:12 UTC

freebsd is like next level asshatery

2018-04-29 09:01:24 UTC

How do you gamers feel about crypto increasing the costs of graphic cards. Salty?

2018-04-29 09:01:31 UTC

What is freeBSD

2018-04-29 09:01:45 UTC

imagine being so up youre own ass you feel the need to use an OS i have literally never even seen running ever just to flex on linux niggas

2018-04-29 09:01:52 UTC

How do you feel about not having good games?

2018-04-29 09:01:52 UTC

again though, gamers run the mainstream OS, thats never gonna change

2018-04-29 09:02:01 UTC

freebsd is also completely useless

2018-04-29 09:02:12 UTC

there are just no reasons to use it

2018-04-29 09:02:19 UTC

it doesn't do anything linux doesn't

2018-04-29 09:02:31 UTC

I bought my 960 already before crypto hit

2018-04-29 09:02:32 UTC

except to be edgy

2018-04-29 09:02:39 UTC

Lol

2018-04-29 09:02:49 UTC

i got a fury pre-coinfags runing the market

2018-04-29 09:02:51 UTC

Bakeon is laying it hard

2018-04-29 09:03:07 UTC

@radeon youโ€™re sober today?

2018-04-29 09:03:26 UTC

im out of green

2018-04-29 09:03:28 UTC

both kinds

2018-04-29 09:03:35 UTC

That explains it

2018-04-29 09:03:46 UTC

@radeon steal from da gubment

2018-04-29 09:04:46 UTC

Anyway, non-power users can enjoy Linux just as much as Windows, if not more.
