>transparent amp

2017-06-27 21:40:07 UTC

oh baby

2017-06-27 21:40:50 UTC

yeah, measurably so

2017-06-27 21:41:06 UTC

trivial to take a scope and put a probe on the output, a probe on the input, and compare

2017-06-27 21:42:28 UTC

@Obolon Prime can't wait

2017-06-27 21:42:30 UTC

also: LT1010 one of my new fave ICs

2017-06-27 21:44:17 UTC

pair of 9v batteries, active virtual ground circuit so i get a real deal +-9v rails instead of like +8.5v-9.5v or something, 5532 -> LT1010, i now have an amp that will perform flawlessly within the range of human hearing, and with 150mA max output current per channel, so it'll drive any headphone you like or some small speakers

2017-06-27 21:47:01 UTC

BUF634 is nice too and with the 250mA output current but there's no reason for that in a headphone amp

2017-06-27 21:47:03 UTC

o shit you do amp design

2017-06-27 21:47:07 UTC

ye

2017-06-27 21:47:12 UTC

i kinda want to get into it

2017-06-27 21:47:20 UTC

currently building a beta 22

2017-06-27 21:47:23 UTC

it's a lot easier than you mighr expect

2017-06-27 21:47:33 UTC

most electronics are, just learn to break down what you want into blocks

2017-06-27 21:47:38 UTC

and learn how to connect the blocks

2017-06-27 21:48:07 UTC

my father builds amps n shit so i could probably learn from him

2017-06-27 21:48:19 UTC

amps especially are easy since there's so much special purpose "they already did it perfect for you" components out there

2017-06-27 21:48:40 UTC

discrete amps are hard but there's no reason for discrete amps unless you're trying to build amps for some insane loudspeaker system

2017-06-27 21:49:05 UTC

and even then it's only hard in that you have to do math more complex than ohm's law

2017-06-27 21:49:22 UTC

discrete looks cooler so it attracts sick audiophile cash B^)

2017-06-27 21:49:31 UTC

more components = better sound

2017-06-27 21:49:34 UTC

fact

2017-06-27 21:49:38 UTC

just slap a tube in it with all pins connect to gnd

2017-06-27 21:49:42 UTC

lol

2017-06-27 21:49:42 UTC

audiophiles eat that shit up

2017-06-27 21:49:59 UTC

guys remember to use silver cables

2017-06-27 21:50:02 UTC

put a orange led pwm'd really dim under it

2017-06-27 21:50:10 UTC

they'll think it's a real tube amp

2017-06-27 21:50:25 UTC

wasnt there a chink tube amp that literally did that?

2017-06-27 21:50:29 UTC

several

2017-06-27 21:50:33 UTC

kek

2017-06-27 21:50:37 UTC

most of them just use the tube as a preamp stage

2017-06-27 21:50:44 UTC

just to add that tube noise to the signal

2017-06-27 21:50:47 UTC

i saw a soundbar with a tube in it

2017-06-27 21:50:49 UTC

i was like wtf

2017-06-27 21:50:57 UTC

soundbars are aids anyway

2017-06-27 21:51:02 UTC

ye

2017-06-27 21:51:17 UTC

"hey what if we sold just the crappy tv speaker by itself, but for like $200"

2017-06-27 21:51:19 UTC

lmao

2017-06-27 21:51:19 UTC

thats soundbars

2017-06-27 21:51:28 UTC

why

2017-06-27 21:51:44 UTC

because rich people are stupid and will buy stupid shit

2017-06-27 21:51:55 UTC

i still find it funny that grado sells a cmoy for like 10 times the price

2017-06-27 21:52:12 UTC

ye

2017-06-27 21:52:19 UTC

most headphone amps over like $50 are just audiophool markup

2017-06-27 21:52:39 UTC

all dacs aside from special purpose data aquisition or audio production equipment over $30 are audiophool markup

2017-06-27 21:52:47 UTC

idk you get really nice cases

2017-06-27 21:52:49 UTC

hahaha

2017-06-27 21:53:49 UTC

a "measurably 100% mathematicall proveably perfectly recreates every sound a human can hear" dac is like $25 BOM to make a one-off, can be made for under $10/pop if you're buying in a "i am selling these to the public" scale

2017-06-27 21:55:57 UTC

and even that's overkill because go ahead, try and find a song, audiobook, tv show, anything like that, with a dynamic range over 70dB, and also consider that 120dB dynamic range means that in a signal using the full dynamic range, if you can hear the quietest part of it, the loudest part of it will literally destroy your ears

2017-06-27 21:56:13 UTC

I ended up buying the kz zs5, let's see what they're worth

2017-06-27 21:56:23 UTC

yea ive ordered a pair

2017-06-27 21:56:25 UTC

cool

2017-06-27 21:56:30 UTC

i kinda want a pair to fuck with

2017-06-27 21:56:40 UTC

yeah the whole dynamic range thing is funny

2017-06-27 21:56:45 UTC

with silver cables since it wasn't that much more, and I had a coupon anyway

2017-06-27 21:57:03 UTC

you know what's _really_ funny

2017-06-27 21:57:04 UTC

i always laugh when vinyl autists argue that vinyl has a superior dynamic range

2017-06-27 21:57:09 UTC

audiophool capacitors

2017-06-27 21:57:11 UTC

omg vinyl

2017-06-27 21:57:20 UTC

>vinyl >dynamic range superior to fkn anything

2017-06-27 21:57:30 UTC

goddamn even a good quality compact cassette destroys vinyl there :v

2017-06-27 21:57:32 UTC

half of it is the fucking noise floor

2017-06-27 21:58:07 UTC

I actually bought my mother a turntable the other day

2017-06-27 21:58:18 UTC

also >audiophiles think they can hear switching noise from smps in their equipment and linear supplies "sound better"

2017-06-27 21:58:31 UTC

what is a lowpass filter

2017-06-27 21:58:33 UTC

She was really happy

2017-06-27 21:58:49 UTC

i like vinyl on an aesthetic level

2017-06-27 21:58:50 UTC

vinyl is nothing more than a collectors item imo

2017-06-27 21:58:55 UTC

im not gonna pretend it _sounds_ better lol

2017-06-27 22:02:14 UTC

What's the deal with the QCY Q29 earphones?

2017-06-27 22:02:44 UTC

apple meme

2017-06-27 22:02:52 UTC

meme true wireless shit

2017-06-27 22:06:13 UTC

>stealth mini body such as the music wizard in hiding your ears

2017-06-27 22:06:30 UTC

Fuck even the French translation on the same page is better

2017-06-27 22:06:38 UTC

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/189466684938125312/329382042338983938/superlux_hd_662_evo.jpg

2017-06-27 22:06:47 UTC

How should I add my old headset mic to these

2017-06-27 22:06:54 UTC

These are supposedly good aren't they?

2017-06-27 22:07:18 UTC

I was thinking about gluing mini magnets to headphones and headset mic

2017-06-27 22:07:28 UTC

I have the non Evo model I think

2017-06-27 22:07:53 UTC

I ordered the Evo model

2017-06-27 22:08:06 UTC

superlux hd 662 evo

2017-06-27 22:08:06 UTC

681b is the one I have actually

2017-06-27 22:08:26 UTC

Didn't know about the Evo one back then

2017-06-27 22:08:44 UTC

The magnet thing could work I guess

2017-06-27 22:09:03 UTC

662 evo are good

2017-06-27 22:09:20 UTC

esp if you do frans' mods

2017-06-27 22:09:58 UTC

i havent actually used the evo

2017-06-27 22:10:08 UTC

super good for the budget

2017-06-27 22:10:17 UTC

i just wish the headband was larger

2017-06-27 22:10:22 UTC

like in a vertical way

2017-06-27 22:10:28 UTC

not enough space for my fat head

2017-06-27 22:10:41 UTC

are they that much better than the normal 662?

2017-06-27 22:10:51 UTC

never used the 662

2017-06-27 22:11:09 UTC

arent they just a sealed 681?

2017-06-27 22:11:12 UTC

i kinda wanna give the 562 a go too

2017-06-27 22:11:20 UTC

they seem to be

2017-06-27 22:11:56 UTC

heard good stuff about the 562

2017-06-27 22:11:56 UTC

iirc different driver though

2017-06-27 22:12:02 UTC

re: 662

2017-06-27 22:12:24 UTC

Oh, talking about headphones, I've been using the sound intone cx-05 for quite some time now

2017-06-27 22:13:03 UTC

those look pretty aids

2017-06-27 22:13:36 UTC

i still can't get over that koss still makes the pro-4aa

2017-06-27 22:13:39 UTC

I really wanted to love them, but they're too painful

2017-06-27 22:13:40 UTC

and it's only like $70

2017-06-27 22:13:47 UTC

Other than that they're pretty amazing

2017-06-27 22:14:45 UTC

pro4aa sound like shit tho

2017-06-27 22:14:52 UTC

disagree

2017-06-27 22:15:01 UTC

but then i also genuinely enjoy my SE-20A

2017-06-27 22:15:24 UTC

they sound nasaly as fuck

2017-06-27 22:15:28 UTC

@HEKTIK Where the HD681 EVO is dark and bassy sounding with subdued highs the HD662-EVO has deep bass, non recessed mids (a bit forward sounding) and the right amount of treble.

2017-06-27 22:15:32 UTC

objectively they are inferior to a lot of cheaper headphones if you want transparent

2017-06-27 22:15:39 UTC

but i dont always want transparent

2017-06-27 22:16:03 UTC

though theyre such an old headphone that there may have just been some shitty revisions

2017-06-27 22:16:03 UTC

what is the difference with closed and semi-closed models? which one I should use in gaming?

2017-06-27 22:16:08 UTC

since the pair i tried werent new

2017-06-27 22:16:29 UTC

good headphones barely even _tried_ to exist until like the late 90s tbh

2017-06-27 22:16:43 UTC

nah there are a few early orthos that arent bad

2017-06-27 22:16:47 UTC

a few

2017-06-27 22:16:56 UTC

and were ungodly expensive then and still are

2017-06-27 22:17:13 UTC

"normie" headphones that didn't sound like complete crap i guess i should say

2017-06-27 22:17:24 UTC

ss-100 arent that expensive now

2017-06-27 22:17:36 UTC

audio enthusiast gear has been around since recorded music started

2017-06-27 22:17:47 UTC

@Make open

2017-06-27 22:18:00 UTC

semi open is pretty much just open @Make

2017-06-27 22:18:13 UTC

just with a bit more restriction

2017-06-27 22:18:20 UTC

Ok why open is better @Windatica ?

2017-06-27 22:18:30 UTC

better sound stage

2017-06-27 22:18:30 UTC

@Make do you game in a quiet space

2017-06-27 22:18:38 UTC

less backwave dampening needed

2017-06-27 22:18:53 UTC

if so open generally gives a "wider soundstage", or more apparent separation between the channels, making for better directional audio

2017-06-27 22:18:57 UTC

which is good for game

2017-06-27 22:19:12 UTC

closed blocks out noise from outside and also keeps other people from hearing whatever you are

2017-06-27 22:20:40 UTC

also on the dac thing earlier >mfw audiophiles spend $500 on a usb dac but scoff at $100 pcie sound cards with dsp features to actually justify the price tag with

2017-06-27 22:20:58 UTC

tbh internal sound cards can be pretty fucky

2017-06-27 22:21:05 UTC

dsp is fucking cool though

2017-06-27 22:21:09 UTC

i need to learn that shit

2017-06-27 22:21:15 UTC

can, the Big Names are generally pretty solid though

2017-06-27 22:21:49 UTC

what superlux I should instead take instead of 662 evo? If I use them as headset for gaming and listening to music

2017-06-27 22:22:08 UTC

one of the open ones if your space is quiet

2017-06-27 22:22:11 UTC

668b/681

2017-06-27 22:22:14 UTC

with velour pads

2017-06-27 22:22:17 UTC

they both image well

2017-06-27 22:22:23 UTC

681 i can confirm is an excellent headphone, using one rn

2017-06-27 22:22:27 UTC

668b if you want a midbass hump

2017-06-27 22:22:31 UTC

681 if you dont

2017-06-27 22:22:34 UTC

I still need to order the velour pads

2017-06-27 22:22:45 UTC

681 is a bit more comfy imo since no wing design

2017-06-27 22:22:58 UTC

slap on some k240 velours and be done

2017-06-27 22:23:31 UTC

I'd back that recommendation

2017-06-27 22:23:38 UTC

I'm living in apartment alone so it's quiet

2017-06-27 22:23:45 UTC

thing i kinda wanna try after seeing those audeze iems:

2017-06-27 22:23:51 UTC

ksc75 iem mod

2017-06-27 22:23:57 UTC

lol

2017-06-27 22:24:00 UTC

will take Hard Math

2017-06-27 22:24:13 UTC

but could be cool, IEMs with big drivers are cool

2017-06-27 22:24:23 UTC

the audeze isines are apparently pretty good

2017-06-27 22:24:25 UTC

is there difference between hd 681 and evo?

2017-06-27 22:24:25 UTC

tho they fit wonky

2017-06-27 22:24:29 UTC

i want to try a pair

2017-06-27 22:24:34 UTC

yes @Make

2017-06-27 22:24:38 UTC

681 EVO is worse

2017-06-27 22:24:44 UTC

quite muddy

2017-06-27 22:24:46 UTC

oh

2017-06-27 22:24:49 UTC

even just a 12mm-16mm driver in an iem instead of an 8mm driver makes a world of difference for the money

2017-06-27 22:24:55 UTC

I thought it would be better because new model

2017-06-27 22:25:01 UTC

lol

2017-06-27 22:25:03 UTC

but a 45mm driver? hh

2017-06-27 22:25:06 UTC

newer =/= better

2017-06-27 22:25:34 UTC

hd 681 is even cheaper

2017-06-27 22:25:36 UTC

only 20โ‚ฌ

2017-06-27 22:25:57 UTC

so these are similar to hd 662 evo but just open model?

2017-06-27 22:26:13 UTC

not quite

2017-06-27 22:26:18 UTC

they sound very different

2017-06-27 22:26:22 UTC

much flatter fr curve

2017-06-27 22:26:29 UTC

^

2017-06-27 22:26:58 UTC

sealed cans tend to have a bump in bass through midbass, open cans tend to have a hump in the highs if anything

2017-06-27 22:27:19 UTC

always exceptions but the general trend for cheap headphones is that

2017-06-27 22:28:23 UTC

@HEKTIK Do you know which way round the connectors on the ZS5/ZS3 cables are meant to go?

2017-06-27 22:28:32 UTC

There's nothing stopping me connecting them either way

2017-06-27 22:28:36 UTC

And what about the 681b

2017-06-27 22:29:14 UTC

is flat bad thing?

2017-06-27 22:29:36 UTC

not necessarily

2017-06-27 22:29:40 UTC

it is if you enjoy music

2017-06-27 22:29:41 UTC

8)

2017-06-27 22:29:43 UTC

it's preference

2017-06-27 22:29:48 UTC

I don't know anything about headphones

2017-06-27 22:29:49 UTC

flat is more accurate

2017-06-27 22:30:19 UTC

flat headphones are listening to music the way the audio engineer wanted you to hear it

2017-06-27 22:30:28 UTC

basically the fr curve is the amplitude of signals over frequency, so if it's flat then you have consistent amplitude across more frequencies

2017-06-27 22:30:31 UTC

anything else is what the musician would have wanted you to hear it

2017-06-27 22:30:38 UTC

a bump means some frequency ranges are gonna be louder than others

2017-06-27 22:31:07 UTC

some genres take an expectation of a big bump in bass into account when producing, hip hop and edm especially

2017-06-27 22:31:37 UTC

others expect to be listened on a system with a more of a v-shaped curve, metal and such

2017-06-27 22:32:31 UTC

but they still monitor it all on systems as flat as possible, and they don't go so far with that as to _require_ you to use a system with a certain type of fr curve for it to sound good

2017-06-27 22:34:26 UTC

after all most people don't have a "these are my rap headphones, these are my bluegrass headphones, these ones for jazz", they have a pair of shitty walmart iems and some shitty car speakers drowned out with road noise

2017-06-27 22:40:19 UTC

Tried the ZS5s on for the second time. Much less of a pain to get in once you bend the curve of the piece of metal in the wire in place.

2017-06-27 22:42:14 UTC

I'm definitely one to hate on nigga bass but the bass in these might just be one notch below my liking. That said, the bass is clean, not muddy at all.

2017-06-27 22:42:45 UTC

A lot better than the ATEs

2017-06-27 22:49:11 UTC

cancelled my order on 662 evo

2017-06-27 22:54:49 UTC

whys that

2017-06-27 22:55:26 UTC

i have that and other chink headphones

2017-06-27 22:55:30 UTC

i recommend something else

2017-06-27 23:02:03 UTC

Look at the inside of the connector @transience

2017-06-27 23:02:45 UTC

There should be a curved edge that matches with the connector

2017-06-27 23:02:52 UTC

Found it, thanks

2017-06-27 23:04:20 UTC

@AlbumONLY not ordering them from chinkland I heard they are not good for gaming and I need open models

2017-06-27 23:04:45 UTC

i was gonna recommend some open headphones from chinkland

2017-06-27 23:04:45 UTC

Not ordering what?

2017-06-27 23:04:48 UTC

that are realy quite good

2017-06-27 23:04:52 UTC

headphones

2017-06-27 23:04:55 UTC

Oh the 662

2017-06-27 23:05:14 UTC

i think the ISKs or takstars are prettttttty dam good

2017-06-27 23:05:24 UTC

and comfortable

2017-06-27 23:05:35 UTC

Yeah they are

2017-06-27 23:05:59 UTC

681/668b just image better so they're better for gaming

2017-06-27 23:06:22 UTC

yea they arent bad

2017-06-27 23:06:28 UTC

wait i cant rember what i have but.. somethin EVO

2017-06-27 23:06:38 UTC

its my sisters not mine but they sound not bad too

2017-06-27 23:07:13 UTC

wagged work today :^) is that what you guys say

2017-06-27 23:07:37 UTC

Cheeky

2017-06-27 23:08:08 UTC
