18v you can turn the gain down compared to the included 5v and the audio quality is crisp

with the 48v it's mostly all the way down and it can pick things up across the room

it becomes more sensitive and the sound I get out of it is higher quality

So the 18v should be sufficient for near-contact vocals

when I cranked the gain up one time in general people started yelling at me

with 48v
