Prohibition is wasting the resources of our society at a massive level and has not had even a statistically significant effect on drug use throughout its time. Same as with alcohol, when you ban it, you only make it worse for society, and might even promote the use of the substance as an act of rebellion.
The decade long study from Portugal shows us that decriminalization on the other hand DOES have a statistically significant effect on the amount of drugs users. It significantly reduces it.
