Shit.
I banged hookers and killed kids
I mean I did a lot of other shit but I hate that whole thank you for your service shit
At least it ain't like nam
We're not getting shit on
True
Theyโre the ones to thank anyways
I volunteered. I wasnโt drafted
^^
Granted I'd always rather have a volunteer rather than a draftee
Like shit I did it for a paycheck and to see the world and for the experience. They got yanked out of their lives and sent to a shithole for a year
Also true. Itโs best to be around people that want to be there not the guys counting down their time in country
Ya know what pisses me off though?
Anti war people that havenโt and will never go to war?
The other guys that are like "you better thank me for my SERVICE". Dude fuck that shit
Also that
Oh yeah fuck those guys too
I know one, he's a total vetbro
Shit is annoying as fuck
I hate vetbros
I've only gone full vetbro once
Mainly because someone was talking mad shit about things they knew nothing about.
I lost my head for a minute
Only vet bro shit Iโll cop to is I have a multicam hat I wear a lot. And my work bag is MC as well
But you wonโt catch my vehicle looking like an ERB
I hate that shit
Before I lost all of it, I mainly only used my gear for camping and hiking
Thatโs acceptable
And the occasional flight
I wear a lot of 5.11 shit for range days and work. And work requires tan boots
Acceptable
But I stay away from the moto tโs in public
Same
Besides wearing my silkies, I don't really rock anything besides my moto hat
Even then Its only the N.C. flag
Eh could be worse
You ever look back with rose tented glasses and almost forget how bad it can be?
Every day
Yeah. But then I remember the bad shit I put up with right after and then Iโm happy with where I am
Life is all about growth guys
@thatgoonsteve42 sorry about that
Lol no homie youโre good
Lots of vets in my generation are like that. I didnโt mean to come off like that
Like we didnโt join for the accolades and the thank youโs and all that. Honestly I joined because I was homeless living in a 1980something Honda CRX and I wanted a bed and a paycheck. Seeing the world and shit was just secondary
Well, said that 'cause most of males in my family served
If I came off as triggered or holier than thou ish you have my apologies
But I know what you mean
I want to serve, but at the same time I don't
I want to save the men who'll fight in my side, but at the same time I don't want to serve a fucked up government
Honestly there are pros and cons to it
I never looked at it as serving the federal government.
I looked at it as joining a fraternity. You serve the country and the people of the United States. Nowhere in the Oath is there anything about serving the federal government as a whole. You uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States and obey the lawful orders of the president. But thereโs nothing in there about obeying the Fed machine.
What about the wars soldiers are sent to?
Just a question
Can't deny they were all about profit
Lmao
But I like to learn
Iโm not getting into that.
Afghanistan and Iraq, both at the beginning werenโt about profit
Afghanistan harbored OBL. Plus the Taliban and the Pashtun people are animals anyways and deserved what they got. Sad Sam was doing some shady shit too, and he did have WMDs. He just hid them all in Syria before the UN inspectors came in in 2002-2003
The policy was and still is, contain radical Islam.
Did people profit from it? Yeah. Sure. Hell I did.
Was that what it was about? No.
Agreed
Like the shit he did in Kuwait
Iโll never feel bad about what I did in the service, not just for my country but for Afghanistan.
Sometimes you gotta commit war crimes on people that like to fuck little boys and flaunt it.
Agreed too
'Cause they wouldn't think twice before killing us
All Iโm saying is, overall I give my experience a solid 8/10
Corrected
I did 7 years and decided I was done so I didnโt re enlist
And it wasnโt anything the Army did. I was trying to save a failing marriage and I refused to go down the same road my dad did with my mom
Yeah, there are some personal shit that can break the fuck out of us
Anyways. Iโm not going to tell you one way or another whether you should do it or not. All I have is my experience to go on and reflect
But, I can honestly say you see the both the best and worst of humanity and the human condition in a war zone. You will make friends with people that will last a lifetime
It's good to hear the opinion of who really was in the situation
I can call my best friend in Texas right now and tell him I need his help hiding a body or that I need him up here because Iโm feeling like doing something stupid and heโd be on the next flight up to me. And same with him. If he ever needed me Iโd drop whatever Iโm doing and go. I have multiple friends like that
Difficult to find these kind of people
Yeah. But in the army I was surrounded by them
And I must have done something good as an NCO because my old soldiers still call me from time to time for advice
The pay sucks though.
NCO? Holy moly
Yeah, this I know
Lol I only went to sergeant.
Nothing special
Dunno, big thing for me
The food sucks unless youโre deployed or stationed in Europe.
The hours are long
You spend a lot of time cleaning shit. Mopping floors youโve never walked on. Doing dumb details.
Maybe doing classes on your job and going to the field to actually do your job
Some of your leadership will be incompetent.
But the good NCOs and Officers make up for that
And maybe you get to deploy and do your job downrange.
What was your job?
But the one constant is the people. The guys in the suck with you.
I was a combat engineer.
Which is a fancy way of saying I played with explosives and hunted IEDs. Sometimes got into firefights.
Oh
