2019-02-18 21:54:45 UTC

Someone HAS to teach it.

2019-02-18 21:54:46 UTC

Except that in this instance, smollett claims bleach was poured on him. It was intentional to make the attack seem racially motivated...from the get-go.

2019-02-18 21:54:55 UTC

Yeah

2019-02-18 21:55:15 UTC

Maybe I'm missing something, but to me, bleach doesn't scream racial motivation

2019-02-18 21:55:28 UTC

It's to "whiten" him up.

2019-02-18 21:55:32 UTC

Ohhh

2019-02-18 21:55:58 UTC

And he said that he "kept the noose around his neck when the police came". A total movie player.

2019-02-18 21:56:03 UTC

I always thought about it from a pain perspective

2019-02-18 21:56:14 UTC

Noose, Bleach...screams mainstream reacism.

2019-02-18 21:56:18 UTC

racism*

2019-02-18 21:56:49 UTC

When you check the video, go to the part where he shows the tweets.

2019-02-18 21:57:21 UTC

Will do

2019-02-18 21:58:51 UTC

Can I offer a slight bit of proof as to why underlying racial tension exists?

2019-02-18 21:59:01 UTC

Do you know what the most racist country in the world is?

2019-02-18 21:59:11 UTC

(Hint: it isn't the US)

2019-02-18 22:00:22 UTC

It's India

2019-02-18 22:00:49 UTC

In India, there exist communities of people who have never seen a person who isn't brown.

2019-02-18 22:01:25 UTC

When a white person goes to those communities, do you know how they react? The children hide behind their parents, and the parents move towards their living spaces.

2019-02-18 22:01:49 UTC

Whereas when I visited those communities, there was no such reaction

2019-02-18 22:01:59 UTC

Thatโ€™s not racial tension. Thatโ€™s a natural feat of something unknown

2019-02-18 22:02:03 UTC

It's a basal sense of "us vs. them," a herd mentality, if you will

2019-02-18 22:02:26 UTC

A fear of something that looks exactly as you do, minus skin color?

2019-02-18 22:02:35 UTC

That's exactly what racial tension is

2019-02-18 22:02:47 UTC

Because there's no other differentiating factor between the two

2019-02-18 22:03:12 UTC

That's what I've been trying to say, but sadly, my English skills were being used up by this paper I'm working on

2019-02-18 22:03:39 UTC

Thatโ€™s natural. But not really racial tension.

2019-02-18 22:04:18 UTC

If we were being honest, that's what racial tension actually is. And that's exactly what the media has managed to spin up into such a big thing.

2019-02-18 22:04:36 UTC

It took a base instinct, a natural wariness, and turned it into a big thing

2019-02-18 22:04:48 UTC

Racism definition

prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.

2019-02-18 22:05:33 UTC

That's racism, not racial tension. While similar, the two aren't the same

2019-02-18 22:05:50 UTC

One is active, one is passive

2019-02-18 22:07:24 UTC

Is it still your premise that people are motivated because they think they can get away with it? Or is it that they are guilty of feeding fake propaganda themselves?

2019-02-18 22:08:02 UTC

Both.

2019-02-18 22:08:32 UTC

People think they can get away with stuff because of society's views on things. Society's views are informed by the media.

2019-02-18 22:08:53 UTC

(I thought that the second part was implied, but apparently not)

2019-02-18 22:08:54 UTC

cheese

2019-02-18 22:11:02 UTC

Can you define "Racial Tension" how you understand it, gohan?

2019-02-18 22:11:26 UTC

@gohan Donโ€™t you get it? Itโ€™s these false attacks that are feeding this racial tension you speak of. Are you ok with this?

2019-02-18 22:12:17 UTC

Feelings of wariness or fear caused by the sole fact that one's race is different from another's, caused by an underlying, basal fear of the unknown.

2019-02-18 22:12:39 UTC

Also, it doesn't matter if I'm okay with it or not. It'll continue.

2019-02-18 22:13:27 UTC

@Larken When you have time please select some interest roles as well. Thank you.

2019-02-18 22:15:00 UTC

I hate people like that

2019-02-18 22:18:23 UTC

When you say "fear caused by the fact that one's race is different from another, caused by the underlying fear of the unknown".

I know there's such thing of the fear of the unknown. For example, when some tribes receive guests of all colors, they get perplexed and scared, because of the "unknown" that you speak of. That is normal. When something is very strange to us, we usually respond with fear, because we cannot categorize them in any of our developed faculties (This is developed by Mircea Eliade, when he talks about the Scared and the Profane in his books).

But here's the thing, the "fear" that you speak of coming from the underlying fear of unknown, is not the same "fear" that would be put in the conception of "racial tension". Those are two DIFFERENT things: one comes because of nature and because of lack of contact with other civilizations; the other comes because of the INDOCTRINATION, caused by external factors that are not consequent with the type of fear you describe.

2019-02-18 22:18:57 UTC

I believe the main problem we're having is that we're defining racial tension in two different ways.

2019-02-18 22:19:10 UTC

Maybe if we stopped using that label, it would help

2019-02-18 22:19:42 UTC

I think it was necessary from the get go to define our terms. Sometimes people might agree on the same thing, but they disagree because their definitions are not put.

2019-02-18 22:19:53 UTC

In summary, what I am trying to say is that, yes, we as humans NATURALLY fear the unknown.

2019-02-18 22:20:18 UTC

And that natural fear, when applied to humans, is what I define as racial tension.

2019-02-18 22:20:19 UTC

But there's no such thing as inherent fear for a race when you take into account the fact that the environment where this human is born is already constructed for a long time.

2019-02-18 22:20:33 UTC

Alright, I think I get it

2019-02-18 22:20:52 UTC

We're in agreement, but not understanding that we're in agreement

2019-02-18 22:21:03 UTC

The best example I can give you right now is that of Tarzan (I know it's cartoonish, but it gives a great image).

2019-02-18 22:21:20 UTC

Tarzan was human, but he was raised by monkeys. When humans of the SAME color as him came, he was "afraid" and curious.

2019-02-18 22:21:45 UTC

It happens to some tribes: you can come on the same color of your skin. But what they're afraid of is the fact that YOU do not belong to that tribe.

2019-02-18 22:22:02 UTC

Not necessarily the skin color.

2019-02-18 22:22:54 UTC

I understand. We've been saying the same thing, I've just been saying it in an unfocused, hazy way

2019-02-18 22:39:31 UTC

@The Gwench I just remembered that you wanted to hear my evidence as to why I'm a globie

2019-02-18 22:39:35 UTC

You still want to hear it?

2019-02-18 22:45:53 UTC

I will

2019-02-18 22:46:15 UTC

I had more astrology stuff to talk about too.

2019-02-18 22:46:39 UTC

With relation towards flat vs globe, not just random discussion of astrology.

2019-02-18 22:48:13 UTC

@gohan Sure

2019-02-18 22:49:14 UTC

Alright. So as I have been told often, you don't look to the sky to prove something about the ground. So I did some digging, and I came up with some solid proof.

2019-02-18 22:49:18 UTC

Seismic waves.

2019-02-18 22:50:00 UTC

Specifically, two properties of seismic waves. The first is the difference between surface waves (which travel along the surface of the Earth) and body waves (which travel within the Earth)

2019-02-18 22:50:01 UTC

So what about them?

2019-02-18 22:50:13 UTC

The second property is seismic shadow zones

2019-02-18 22:50:20 UTC

I'll start with shadow zones.

2019-02-18 22:50:42 UTC

Ok

2019-02-18 22:50:47 UTC

The other one is a long-winded mathematical proof that I don't want to type out on a phone.

2019-02-18 22:51:17 UTC

While I like math, I donโ€™t like it that much.

2019-02-18 22:51:23 UTC

Thank you

2019-02-18 22:51:58 UTC

I'll see if I can bring it down, it's long in terms of length, not so much difficulty to understand

2019-02-18 22:52:01 UTC

Anyways

2019-02-18 22:52:06 UTC

Seismic shadow zones

2019-02-18 22:52:52 UTC

Before I start, I want to make sure of one thing.

2019-02-18 22:53:05 UTC

@The Gwench can we agree that seismic measurements are not faked?

2019-02-18 22:53:21 UTC

No

2019-02-18 22:53:34 UTC

I canโ€™t say either way tbh

2019-02-18 22:53:37 UTC

Then it's pointless to discuss

2019-02-18 22:53:55 UTC

I mean, people's *lives* depend on accurate seismic measurements

2019-02-18 22:55:55 UTC

Anyways, seismic waves from earthquakes can be felt at almost all parts of the Earth, at varying degrees of intensity based on distance from the epicenter

2019-02-18 22:56:40 UTC

There are, however, areas at which seismic waves are not measurable. These are called "shadow zones"

2019-02-18 22:57:26 UTC

Continue @gohan
