i explained i was a journalist for a college 30 minutes away from seattle

and i covered topics about equity and shit

then i went into detail about how blacks have a higher rate of violent crime

which is a fact

but i defended them

saying it was because of pop culture and that more of them live in urban areas which have higher rate of crime across the board

these people denied the facts and called me racist

one guy walked up half way in the argument and said "that's a very white male thing to say"

all i can think is to iron clad yourself with citations based off known liberal professors

because there are some decent guys around but you gotta find them

then if people accuse you of being racist explain you got info from people probably more educated or liberal then themselves

my journalist team at my college is so cliquey, it's nauseating

in-jokes and passive aggressiveness

and the one other new guy who doesn't get it

keeps trying to joke with them, 20 times now, every time they are silent and ignore him

whatever band said highschool never ends was right

if most adults have highschool degrees, or just past highschool, it's really all the same mental level

the difference is how dedicated you were to having a rank. the mental acuity is the same on average, I think

that's why there are teachers who are embarrassed by students who go on to basically fuck up

standardized testing is a joke.

the masses look up to people who memorize things better than others, but they're worse at critical thinking.

they are memorizing facts without knowing how they got to that point.

it's like if we had a class on Star Trek.

the people who question plot holes fail.

the people who memorize what happened pass

it's just ironic in my opinion

we criticize critical thinkers because most of what we think is true is HOLY AND SANCTIFIED BY OUR LORD FACTS

yet most of those facts are just agreed-upon opinions or narratives

it does live on, it does not completely die off, but it does die down in many people

and finding ones who aware of its follys goes a long way

the critical thinking vs memorization thing is a different and larger concept which i don't know when it can be addressed

but you see atleast a reasonable amount of academics who admit to being aware of it

besides his views on agnostic>atheist that was one area i really like niel degrasse tyson for, he talked about that subject a lot. he couldn't answer for a solution to it but admitted its a thing. part in problem the system is devised to test off memory, so be it, what can one do. ideally in the real world it does matter more but opportunities don't always come the way of the problem solvers
