Is it possible to encrypt radio transmissions like that?
Yes
But it isn’t legal
yea even coded messages aren't legal
That's what all law enforcement and public service radios use.
@Jones Malone what do they use?
Have to go bbl
Encrypted I thought
right I weasn't sure if they had special equipment that wasn't; available to the public
I know at least some do
@Jones Malone no 99% aren't encrypted
hell 75% aren't even digital
Thats actually pretty wild
yea I listened to all police comms during Shelbyville
Now that you mention it I remember police scanners are a thing
If we ever get to a SHTF moment, having a way to get messages out that can't be shut down or intercepted would be useful
I was the guy in the car with like 3 antennas lmao
police agencies would sooner use trunking than encryption because it requires expensive equipment vs competent users
because if one guy is on a channel without a key, it knocks everyone else off encryption
@Mr. Hughes So it's illegal to encode in any fashion? Not even something like Caesar Cipher?
97.309 (4)(b)
maybe that isn't the one
either way, it isn't enforced
All messages must be in plain language
(without codes or hidden meanings).
They may be in a foreign language,
except for call signs (see
§ 95.119).
§ 95.183 Prohibited communications.(4)
Coded messages or messages with
hidden meanings (‘‘10 codes’’ are permissible);
So we all just need to learn a niche ass language
Broadcast in fuckin somali
yea or just ignore the re- oh hey FCC
you said it isn't enforced
FCC don't play
actually
they do lmao
they are woefully understaffed
See my job makes them sound hard as fuck lol
they have resorted to just sending letters to offenders like radio pirates
ah
and even then, worst they can do is seize your eq and fine you 30k
(the first time)
Having clandestine communications is going to be important in the future
and that's for broadcasting on FM
