Like I said, I need to be able to talk to other techs, and some of them are very hard to understand already because they barely speak English. I can wear foamies under my electronic ear pro if the ear pro allows quiet sounds in, that's fine.

I thought comtacs would handle moderately loud, constant stuff too. I've literally seen no source that says it's not suitable for that, and all the reviews said they allow conversations while gun fire is going off so I figured it would work for this too. I know they play the sound back, but I thought they only played back quite sounds to counteract the insulation.

If I'm wrong about that, and comtacs + foamies would still fuck my ears, then ok.

I just thought that if they could handle guns, they could handle machines. What's so different about those two that makes designing ear pro so hard?

So, the 3m product page for the 3s literally says it handles steady state noise, and the video for the NIB feature on the 6s shows them protecting from an idling tank.

I thought it cut higher intensity sounds with active noise canceling and amped lower intensity sounds. If you looked at the incoming wave form at the mic and the outgoing waveform at the speakers, it would just look like it went through compression. That's all.
