Ugh what I'd give to have that noise level in a CC 9mm.
Is 9mm always supersonic?
Any reason not to use sub 9mm as a cc round?
oh. fek.
just use a weaker recoil spring?
oh so 45 is easier to do this with?
well fuck it then, lets go for that.
you can't really CC that then.... what makes mk23 good for that?
Maybe go full ham and put baffels and chambers all the way back into the grip?
What makes the mk23 any quieter than any other 45 with a can though?
oh lol
oh so the barrel comes prethreaded, that's it? is that rare for a 45?
so it won't cycle until you pull the trigger?
I want to hear in my 80s
I'm still pretty noobish so... I can't. I'm asking questions to learn, not argue.
Won't only a few shots hurt your ears?
oh ok. Still, would be interesting.
https://silencerco.com/media/contentmanager/content/maxim9-gallery-desktop-5_2.jpg like, maybe this, but with chambers that continued back into the grip by going above and below the trigger guard. Vent the gasses out the bottom.
And make it 45, if that's easier.
Most of it would be. Could you put chambers in the slide too, and do a delayed recoil so the slide doesn't go back immediately? when it opens the chambers would vent but it would dissipate some energy first.
I don't understand what you mean @franknotcreep. Are you saying the ports into the chambers have to be close to the end of the barrel, and porting it all the way back to the slide would be too far?
The ports would all still be in the barrel.
oh.
And you could use high temp plastic baffels at the back where the heat is lower to cut weight. you wouldn't want to mag dump with that of course.
hmmmmm
esl?
thanks for the clarification.
lol
ohhhhh I didn't think about that.
Ok, full retard idea. expose the barrel. put a can around the barrel. when you pull it out, a catch on your holster snags the back of the can so you're basically pulling the barrel out of the can. It catches at the end of the barrel and locks into place and the holster catch is spring loaded so it gets forced back when the can locks.
Can make a shitty drawing to explain.
thanks
It's no longer about if I should, but if I CAN.
hollow point 22 LR?
ha, CAN, lol.
hhhhhnnnnnnng
It has a slide... I think. my proportions are just bad. Or did I forget something?
....tungsten slide?
Uh... I'm gonna find a glock internals animation video real quick.
ok so does the glock barrel lock to the slide at the top of the back end of the barrel where is sticks out of the slide?
Disposable suppressor would work for CC for what I'm going for.
right
so could that system not fit into my design?
I know Benny. I'm fully aware I'm being a bit of a retard.
No. I've watched a lot of videos and I've been to the range with my uncle twice, but I know that doesn't mean much. I learn a lot by asking "why hasn't X been done" though. I'm sure there are good reasons why, but sometimes it's just "because economics."
I've watched some for the ar and it's been helpful.
Fuck the ATF.
Reeee
Gonna fight em by using my baofeng as a melee weapon.
fair enough.
Yeah, I actually hate how loud they make concerts for that reason. There's no reason to push 100+ Db in a hole in the wall venue. I can hear you man. In fact it's harder to hear you because you're overdriving your shit.
lol thanks.
But I like music. The music is my vibe, lol.
That and a One Tigris pouch is about it. Got a waist harness and belay devices for rock climbing but that doesn't quite count. I'm trying to find a good pair of Comtac 3's because my employeer is a chinese manufacturer who doesn't care that at idle, the machines we use are at 85 Db. I figure, buy 1 good ear pro that I can use when I get a gun instead of buying multiple sets. Plus I have to be able to talk to those around me while working.
I love live music but I don't want it to hurt my ears.
lol
Yes. They're one of the first companies to open a US factory to avoid tariffs. It's not a sweatshop but let's just say that OSHA would spank their asses if it weren't for the "factory startup license" we are currently on.
what?
I'm an equipment technician, no degree, so I'm using them for my resume. working on finding a new job now actually. I've learned a lot but the chinese techs haven't bothered to train us much. It's hard to actually DO your job here.
We're running all specialized machines. Purpose-made machines built by chinese vendors. Newest generation shit but none of the tech in them is really proprietary.
We have ear plugs but no one really uses them. It's just a box sitting in the back of our spare parts room.
No. I should really start wearing them in the mean time. My ears are weird inside so they're tricky to use. Taking them out and putting them in every time I talk would be a huge pain. Would probably be worth it, and send the right message to everyone though.
I do wear a face mask even when others don't though.
Not a bad idea. I don't really care if other people take issue with it.
Well, 85 hasn't really hurt me so far, and until very recently I didn't even realize the levels were unsafe. In fact, I can't even be 100% sure of those levels because all I have to measure it with is my phone. We don't have proper decibel meters at work.
I drink occasionally.
haha.
that hat has ear pro?
I have to wear the issued black baseball hat that identifies me as an equipment team member.
and yeah, the bill gets in the way all the fucking time.
I also haven't been terribly focused on the ear plugs because frankly, there are so many safety issues that it gets lost in the list sometimes. OSHA did force them to put arc flash stickers on the electrical cabinets, but we don't have the PPE the stickers say we need. We are also expected to work on powered and running machines. My hands and head have been inches from running motors. Some vendor techs even remove the screws holding the safety latches to the doors so they don't stop when you open them.
@franknotcreep I don't mind the space foamies take up. It's the 5 minutes of fucking around to get them to seal that's the issue.
Yeah. Plugs are not the #1 issue I'm facing here.
I hate upper management.
The problem is that we have power cut off switches, but the machines are so shitty that if we used them every time, a we'd be down most of the day. We are expected not to use them. The machines run a PLC and the ones that need the most attention have 2 windows machines that have to be rebooted. And then they have to heat up. There is no way to physically (or in software) LOTO the computer interface if it's running, so IDK WTF to do.
I know it's not management's fault for the plugs. But to be fair though, they don't supply them to the operators of the machines, or to anyone else. We just happen to have a random box.
And that might sound like apathy, but I assure you if we powered them off we would get FUCKED. THey're already on your ass for 5 minutes of down time. Powering off would ensure we never make enough product to break even, and that wouldn't be allowed.
THey don't supply the PPE for arc flash, or even tell us what it is.
I wasn't referring to the plugs. you have a point there. But they ARE choosing not to give them to the operators.
We have 1 or 2 locks floating around, but IDK where the keys are and we have nothing to put them on.
THe equipment team has a box, yes. The operators do not.
@franknotcreep What do you mean about PLCs? arent' they still standard?
We would be out of plugs in 2 shifts if we did that, and providing PPE is the production department's job, not ours.
fanuc?
We make solar panels. We are one of the most automated, high speed factories for it in the world, or at least we are supposed to be.
That's why I'm working on finding an old pair of Comtacs.
Chinese shit.
Or do you mean ROBOT robots? As in the arms?
I figured it would be better to buy a nice pair that I could eventually use for shooting too.
Where I work, robot specifically means robot arm.
I was going to get a wrap around pad for the headband. And I need to be able to hear people around me.
....don't comtacs literally protect from gunshots?
@AnEvalach What part is learned helplessness? Because I'm feelin some of that and it ain't easy to fight off.
Yeah that's fair to some extent. Like I said though, I'm looking for a new job already.
Fuck really? ok. Well, if I can still hear people talking with comtacs + foamies then that's fine.
Is it necessary for 100 Db environments, or just gun shots?
yeah, but I wanted to get something good really good.
what's the difference?
