That used to be the natural way of things farmers would save seeds every year and plant new crops

Grow food for their families and others

Now however monocropping is the majority of farming. Not to feed your family or community but to feed livestock, make corn syrup for batteries and food like products, and then provide a little food for others

We import most produce in the US

Because monocropping of corn and soy and livestock farms are the majority

Now

If you want to start farming but dont wanna monocrop

Your produce will be more expensive and less people will buy it. And if any of Monsanto's gmo plants cross pollinate with yours and they find their product in your field well shit dude you get sued and out of business

And put in debt

And cross pollinating typically happens by the wind

Or insects like bees

Monsanto gmod a seed and patented the seed and if their seed cross pollinates your seeds RIP

Because

It takes more land, rotating, labour, etc to maintain an organic or non organic non mono farm

Monocroppers plant one thing year round

And use chemicals on the crops, use chemical fertilizers to give nutrients back to the soil, etc and all of this strips the soil

No break, the same plant taking all of certain nutrients out of the soil, and then chemicals on top of chemicals

So its cheaper and more time effective

But only for a certain time

After a good time you ruin the soil

The top soil will be destroyed

And it takes 100s of years to be the same

So then they put livestock on that land. Huge feedlots

Thus saving more money
