@FaKenMasters The reason the BlueTooth hookup on your car alwasy asks to update the phone book, is that it operates without any long term storage, and cannot determine if there are NEW entries in your phone directory, but it's being POLITE, because you may be using your phone in someone elses car and do not want your "little black book" to be on access for everyone to see.

Eventually the in-dash computer will get more sophisticated, but right now it's pretty minimalist (despite recent improvements).

It comes down to how much storage they have on hand.
