I prefer Vedic astrology, but you can't get into it without at least a basic understanding of Hinduism. There's a specific god for every lunar mansion, for one. And as per a sub-type of Vedic astrology known as Jaimini astrology, the house occupied by the Atmakaraka (the planet with the highest degree in your birth chart, regardless of the specific sign) in the Navamsha chart (a chart based on your birth chart) will point out which deity you are supposed to worship.
