I'm not sure if I remember 9/11
Remember it like yesterday. Very surreal day.
Could be a false memory but I remember my mom bringing me home from school early and saying bad guys knocked down buildings \
I was three
I dont remember it all either
but I do remember being like 6, sitting in front of the TV, & hearing we were at war with iraq or afghanistan & thinking to myself 'really? i didnt even know that'. I always thought war was like in the movies. we had probaby been in for two or three years at that point.
I didnt even know we were at with both iraq and afghanistan until I was in like the 8th or 9th grade
I was impressed that the jihadis had used our own technology against us.
9/11 I was so pissed I went to school and no one else did and all the Mexicans walked off campus early. My folks had to work, all we did was watch CNN all day...annoying.
The before and after effect of 9/11 on American culture is interesting to me
>2000miles away a thing happens
>not attending life
Just the tone of things, ripening to cynicism
Not that I remember before
People didn't care about the event, they cared about themselves
At my school I mean
The best thing is to avoid Geo. Washington's advice to avoid foreign entanglements.
Then we spent months talking about the Ottoman Empire...
Instead of American history.
Speaking of this kind of thing how bizarre is it that officially we still don't know why the largest shooting in American history happened
And no one cares or is talking about it
Talking of course about Vegas
Vegas...someone knows the truth...bugs me there is no resolution.
Comped sushi...think about it
Comped (half joke meme)
9/11 is my earliest "world event" memory. I might have a false memory of Y2K but idk. My parents tell me we were at Pierre Trudeau's funeral but I was too young
Y2K...I remember an IT guy I knew was patching computers for months with a floppy
I do distinctly remember the beginning of the Iraq war
Because my dad was massively against it
All he talked about
my parents were probably for it. damn boomers
My dad is a boomer!
But a leftboomer
I saw people for and against...I had cognitive dissonance because I was against it but everyone I knew who was against it was a lefty... I didn't comprehend that fully
Left and right is inadequate framing
Sometimes if I say something about economics or the environment people are like oh so you're a lefty huh
Tbh still see eye to eye on those issues with my parents, it's the race and social stuff that they're mortified by
"where did we go wrong with you William!?!?!"
My Dad almost died on 911. Luckily his Staff Sergeant was lazy and booked a later flight.
woah
oh man Y2K, how could i forget about that one
