He's probably just not playing devil's advocate enough and being far, far, FAR too generous when it comes to assuming people are 'good' or like him.

2018-09-11 01:02:32 UTC

likely.

2018-09-11 01:02:49 UTC

Like that black Apple diversity woman who got fired for saying that 12 white men could be diverse for having different backgrounds.

2018-09-11 01:03:23 UTC

A lot of the liberals I know have this inherent believe that people from other cultures think exactly like them, and that the only differences are different languages, cloths, food, music, etc.

2018-09-11 01:03:50 UTC

context, that's why i took it to the most general definition. differences

2018-09-11 01:04:34 UTC

Like if you strip away the superficial differences that people from other cultures would share the same beliefs with respect to the role of religion, justice, government, family, gender, etc.

2018-09-11 01:05:11 UTC

there was actually an interesting paper a teacher handed out that kind of pointed the differences in perspective of cultures out.

2018-09-11 01:05:16 UTC

Then they're shocked when a man from Jordan or Syria is completely against the idea of their sister or daughter working and living independently.

2018-09-11 01:05:41 UTC

But even there you run into a problem if a certain person just doesn't follow their culture's norms/beliefs/what-have-you.

2018-09-11 01:05:56 UTC

it was describing standard things that americans take for granted, in a very odd way, the way an outsider might see them. To show us, how our perspectives are different.

2018-09-11 01:06:10 UTC

Oh yeah I'm not saying to pigeonhole people or pre-judge people based on their nationality.

2018-09-11 01:06:30 UTC

No, I think I just jumped to the conclusion you were making.

2018-09-11 01:06:33 UTC

I'm saying that you can't take it for granted that all people everywhere believe in the same basic philosophy you do.

2018-09-11 01:07:08 UTC

Some people might legitimately believe there is a role for religion in government, or that families must have the final say in who you marry.

2018-09-11 01:07:37 UTC

Or that it's OK to exclude people based on inherent characteristics. These notions are very shocking to liberals.

2018-09-11 01:07:57 UTC

So they patronize them.

2018-09-11 01:08:27 UTC

I remember that Nacirema from back in high school sociology class.

2018-09-11 01:08:54 UTC

Part of the reason Islam gets a pass in extreme liberal communities. They don't really believe that some muslims have such views. They think there's a misinterpretation or misunderstanding somewhere, or that they're being tricked or deceived.

2018-09-11 01:09:24 UTC

That the Muslims are somehow victims for having these beliefs.

2018-09-11 01:10:07 UTC

An entire religion of victims. That's liberal paydirt.

2018-09-11 01:10:12 UTC

I think they look at Muslims seeing the Koran the same way that *they* view the Bible.

2018-09-11 01:10:21 UTC

And some totally do.

2018-09-11 01:10:34 UTC

That it's just an old book with a bunch of outdated rules.

2018-09-11 01:12:08 UTC

Had a Kuwaiti roommate once that gave zero fucks. But I think it's a safe bet that the old beliefs are widely held. Shapiro did a video on it.

2018-09-11 01:12:23 UTC

Anyway, when the fundamentals of the west are being asked to be changed. That we are individuals, that we have rights and responsiblities, that we are all the same under the law, etc. That kind of diversity is not a strength. That's a recipe for chaos.

2018-09-11 01:13:12 UTC

As we can see being played out...

2018-09-11 01:13:30 UTC

Paradox of tolerance. We have lost confidence in the idea that our core beliefs with respect to law, governance, epistemology, metaphysics, human nature, etc, are correct.

2018-09-11 01:13:45 UTC

Yep. There's a bedrock of culture that needs to be shared for people to coexist peacefully.

2018-09-11 01:14:01 UTC

One thing Tucker pointed out was language.

2018-09-11 01:14:23 UTC

If you literaly can't communiate with someone you can't really interact meaningfully.

2018-09-11 01:17:48 UTC

A big part of diversity is assimilation which is when the people who enter a community leave their bad ideals behind and only bring in good new ones. What is gong on now isn’t that kind of diversity.

2018-09-11 01:20:04 UTC

Also you can get diversity of thought by visiting other places without needing to import people.

2018-09-11 01:20:17 UTC

Or via the internet

2018-09-11 01:20:27 UTC

Like how Tim was saying he goes into conservative spaces.

2018-09-11 01:20:44 UTC

@Timcast I'm curious, did you think Turcker was talking about Diversity of Thought?

2018-09-11 01:21:41 UTC

Bringing in people with vastly different beliefs and expecting them to change/become a net positive isn’t always based in reality.

2018-09-11 01:21:53 UTC

Bringing in is the key phrase

2018-09-11 01:22:26 UTC

If people can make it in via the normal process, want to join the society etc then I see 0 issues

2018-09-11 01:22:56 UTC

If they want to join and will change to fit in.
