The way i see this, is that they are handicapping these people from the getgo by not giving them even the most basic tool to function in this country

by annoying the shit out of english speaking people by constantly asking what words meant

there's not really a language requirement in Indonesia, just make sure you're able to communicate properly and well enough with other people.

I mean, there's over 300 languages spoken on a daily basis in Indonesia

with 1 lingua franca

but eh.... people tend to mix their own native language and the official language

We got 3 recognized languages here

but the city i live in has more nationalities in it then New york

it's not even nationalities, just different tribes with differing languages

hence why most people in Indonesia tends to be trilinguals

I speak 5 atm

but they only expect you to speak 2 properly

I speak 4 languages "fluently", with some other minor languages

But here is another example i always give to people

also, even though I'm chinese descent, I can't speak chinese at all

back in the 90s we had a large movement of eastern europeans coming in due to the whole balkan conflict

I even almost got suspected for weird stuff in China because I didn't understand jackshit of what their ATF was saying

and was promptly scolded by my grandma who speak the language

I dont recall anyone calling anyone racist for pointing out these people were disproportionally committing a huge amount of crime.
Hell even the police chief here was quoted saying "at least theyre so nice to solve their own problems" as a reference to all the murdering going on.
But everyone was sick of it.

We got the same thing today only on a much larger scale in terms of people coming in.
But now the reply is that when you point out how theyre disproportionally represented in the crime stats & jail population, you are called a racist and thats the end of the debate.
Theres just no looking into what is causing these problems, cops get told to stand down due to fear of things escalating whenever theres a confrontation and so on

Prolly the best one is a city south of me which is a liberal

he seems to have found a good recipe for dealing with these issues

tbh, I never recalled any immigrants causing a huge issue in Indonesia

some tribal tensions, sure

it just depends on how big the cultural difference is and the language barrier i think

and quantity vs period of time

tbh, most people come to Indonesia not to stay, but for vacations

especially in Bali and Lombok
