It's a painful thing I've learned about human nature. When confronted with coming with with a difficult truth and lying, most people will lie, no matter how alienating to one's peers and duties it might be.
Well... most often lying _is_ the easy way out. But if someone can be made to lie against his heartfelt conviction, for whatever reason, he will do it again more readily than the first time.

I can't say I fault them for that. Personally, I believe a hands-off approach should be taken regarding the gays.
Much like the Jews: remove all taboos and worrying about people's feelings, allow for a society that allows absolute freedom of association and expression, and let society react accordingly.
