@Coolitic They aren't a "socialist party". They're called "Social Democrats", but as we all know, these names mean nothing in practice, since in the U.S people call socialists "liberals".

2020-03-14 13:43:53 UTC

@Seven Proxies in the case of Sweden however, they were remnants of actual socialists who just changed their names

2020-03-14 13:43:56 UTC

The Social Democrats in Sweden are pretty much fiscal liberals but who also argue for high welfare.

2020-03-14 13:43:56 UTC

Fuck russia though. Russia is cringe

@Seven Proxies - So what’s the core difference between a Socialist Party and Democratic socialists?

2020-03-14 13:44:08 UTC

imagine being that cucked

2020-03-14 13:44:14 UTC
2020-03-14 13:44:19 UTC

Literally just electing socialism democratically

2020-03-14 13:44:32 UTC

MA is legit drunk. He's like Joe Biden at this point

2020-03-14 13:44:38 UTC

@Coolitic If you want the real socialists in Sweden then you need to look at "Vänsterpartiet" ( The Left Party) or as they used to call themselves: "The Left Party Communists"

2020-03-14 13:44:42 UTC

If both are striving for authoritarian power, it’s effectively an argument of which means to achieve the same end.

2020-03-14 13:44:49 UTC

@Mersenne George Orwell hated Commmuism. He was a self-declared Democratic Socilaist

2020-03-14 13:44:57 UTC

He used to be

2020-03-14 13:45:02 UTC

Then he hated socialism

2020-03-14 13:45:08 UTC

Yeah but then turned against it

2020-03-14 13:45:13 UTC

In a similar manner to JBP

2020-03-14 13:45:13 UTC

exactly

2020-03-14 13:45:15 UTC

no, they were both at the same time

2020-03-14 13:45:16 UTC

But they've always been fringe. Even when they try to be more mainstream, they've never passed 10 %. And they've never been able to appoint a prime minister or a government of their own.

2020-03-14 13:45:49 UTC

It’s because Orwell was able to recognize that those advocating for the impoverished often viewed them as inferior.

2020-03-14 13:45:53 UTC

@Mersenne It's a philosophical and semantic question in my view. "Democratic socialist" doesn't really mean anything.

2020-03-14 13:45:53 UTC

boomer doomer flu may change their outlook

2020-03-14 13:45:55 UTC

Europeans are 'democratic socialists' from Orwell's perspective

2020-03-14 13:46:06 UTC

@Mersenne What I focus on is the policies they actually put in practice

2020-03-14 13:46:13 UTC

certain programs are state controlled: education, health care etc

2020-03-14 13:46:27 UTC

Suomis get the rope

2020-03-14 13:46:28 UTC

but under a capitalist framework

2020-03-14 13:46:45 UTC

Social Democrats are more politically motivated than ideologically. All policies hinge on having a near totalitarian control over the state.

2020-03-14 13:46:50 UTC

nah, european republics are a mix of authoritarian power, capitalism and surplus welfare

2020-03-14 13:47:00 UTC

surplus welfare =/= socialism

2020-03-14 13:47:01 UTC

And faggots

2020-03-14 13:47:05 UTC

@Mersenne And with that in mind, you can't really call the Social Democrats of Sweden "socialist", because they don't seek to abolish private property or earning profits from the private market like real socialists would.

Essentially, the Social Democrats of Sweden are just the extended party arm of the labour unions.
