@Graylan | gray00 If you are using Gnome or KDE the ram usage of Linux is about the same as Windows. The install size of Windows is due to fact that they support 20 years worth of software built on it. I can still run very old windows programs fine on Windows 10.

Am I missing a video that sparked this conversation?

2019-02-09 18:42:38 UTC

linux and windows are for different types of people
one isnt going to replace the other and vice versa

2019-02-09 18:42:45 UTC

that isnt true.

2019-02-09 18:42:51 UTC

ill run htop to screen shot

2019-02-09 18:42:54 UTC

screen shot ur ram

2019-02-09 18:43:07 UTC

mine idle with 1.6GB used

2019-02-09 18:43:23 UTC

whats a ram screenshot gonna do...
more or less available ram doesnt mean anything

2019-02-09 18:43:30 UTC

@Graylan | gray00 LOL Windows uses prefetch mate. I have 32gb of ram and SQL Server installed.

2019-02-09 18:43:42 UTC

it means a lot actually @Aghost

2019-02-09 18:43:50 UTC

more ram = more running like shit

2019-02-09 18:43:54 UTC

If there is more ram available it uses more. The whole point of having more ram is that I use it not leave it idle.

2019-02-09 18:43:54 UTC

no

2019-02-09 18:44:00 UTC

more ram means less allocation from HD

2019-02-09 18:44:02 UTC

HOLD THE PHONE TIM JUST SAID THAT GOOD AND EVIL DON'T EXIST AND ARE SUBJECTIVE.

2019-02-09 18:44:02 UTC

@Aghost Linux vs Windows, Ford vs Chevy, Bud Light vs Lite, Boxers vs Briefs. For some reason these debates never seem to die regardless of their futility.

2019-02-09 18:44:10 UTC

if you put everything in RAM, then ur system is fast, not slow

2019-02-09 18:44:11 UTC

longer boot times, shitty execution, errors, update wiping out files, forced upgrades to 10 bricking pcs..

2019-02-09 18:44:15 UTC

i could go on and on forever

2019-02-09 18:44:19 UTC

name your 3 favorite browser plugins/addons that you would recommend. GO

2019-02-09 18:44:21 UTC

GOOD AND EVIL EXIST.

2019-02-09 18:44:29 UTC

no they don't

2019-02-09 18:44:39 UTC

I wold agree with tim, though, I haven't seen what you claim.

2019-02-09 18:44:39 UTC

having nothing in your ram, means you are not using your machine to its fullest potential
but it really really depends on what ur doing with it

2019-02-09 18:44:44 UTC

@Aghost lmfao. yea that has nothing to do with idle ram usage my friend.

2019-02-09 18:44:50 UTC

Yes they do

2019-02-09 18:44:52 UTC

it does

2019-02-09 18:44:53 UTC

@CasualSailor he said Windows dev was dead. Tell that to the 1000s of company in the UK that are still building products that run on windows. @Graylan | gray00 made a very silly claim

2019-02-09 18:45:04 UTC

"idle ram usage"
see ur backing up already

2019-02-09 18:45:06 UTC

😂 year of the linux desktop is here, right

2019-02-09 18:45:09 UTC

No

2019-02-09 18:45:15 UTC

that's what i said the whole time

2019-02-09 18:45:16 UTC

@Graylan | gray00 Windows boots on my machine in less than 10 seconds

2019-02-09 18:45:26 UTC

linux vs win idle ram and install size

2019-02-09 18:45:33 UTC

Omg this is the stupidest nerd conversation ever

2019-02-09 18:45:38 UTC

win 10 install is up to 60gb before you delete Windows.Old

2019-02-09 18:45:40 UTC

@Graylan | gray00 Do you know what Prefetch is?

2019-02-09 18:45:41 UTC

ram not used is ram wasted 😅

2019-02-09 18:45:54 UTC

that's why Chrome is the best browser

2019-02-09 18:46:00 UTC

because it ensures you won't have any free RAM

2019-02-09 18:46:07 UTC

hahahahahaha
