but it really doesn't

2019-01-27 21:23:05 UTC

if you look back in time, industrial revolution for example, people were saying jobs would be gone and that a lot of people would be unemployed and people would be doing nothing

2019-01-27 21:23:14 UTC

exactly how people say it now, but look what happened

2019-01-27 21:25:03 UTC

That’s different though

2019-01-27 21:25:13 UTC

People still needed to work the machines

2019-01-27 21:25:29 UTC

In the scenario I’m talking automation removes the majority of jobs

2019-01-27 21:26:45 UTC

Like high majority

2019-01-27 21:26:47 UTC

people will still be needed to make the make the machines, check if theyre working properly, repair them

2019-01-27 21:26:53 UTC

yes

2019-01-27 21:26:57 UTC

Obviously

2019-01-27 21:27:17 UTC

But in the IR the machines were run by people

2019-01-27 21:27:47 UTC

It was probably 10 people to a machine but now

2019-01-27 21:27:52 UTC

It would be 1 to 100

2019-01-27 21:27:56 UTC

Maybe less

2019-01-27 21:28:00 UTC

But you get the point

2019-01-27 23:35:38 UTC

@wahx there is supply and demand everywhere

2019-01-28 09:07:00 UTC

They won’t become monopolies however , and will be much more efficient

2019-01-28 09:07:04 UTC

Less shortages and less crime

Parallel bridges above, tunnels below for competition

Economizing- Say three paths: road 1 = (line A,B) , road 2 = (line A,B)+distance 50 north, road 3 = (line A,B)-distance 50 south. Say road 1 costs $50, road 2 costs $35, and road 3 costs $20, the driver could economize by picking the road at that suits them best in relation to time/money. Currently drivers have no incentive to economize because roads are completely subsidized, so they tend to take the shortest route every time which leads to congestion.

Substitutes the cost of the road would still have to be less than airfare to compete with that substitute. So there would be no monopoly in that regard, also, perhaps in a free market with private roads, passenger trains would once again be competitive in the market. Currently with subsidized roads there is no reason to compete in this sector.

Besides there will always be an incentive for private firms for transportation. They can’t exist without a means of transporting goods and services
