the way I see it, WW2 was nationalism (Axis) vs. globalism (Allied)

2017-06-29 16:25:58 UTC

actually Churchill was a pretty based dude. he may have been on the wrong side, but he had some strong leadership qualities that were ultimately good for wartime England... as a peacetime leader, he was quite lousy though.

2017-06-29 16:26:03 UTC

"You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life."

2017-06-29 16:26:25 UTC

this quote is a virtue that I hold very close

2017-06-29 16:34:09 UTC

He was a retard though

2017-06-29 16:34:12 UTC

He trusted Stalin

2017-06-29 16:34:17 UTC

true

2017-06-29 16:34:19 UTC

He was quoted as saying

2017-06-29 16:34:41 UTC

"Chamberlain was fooled by Hitler but Stalin can be trusted"

2017-06-29 16:34:52 UTC

Or something among those lines, I have to look it up again

2017-06-29 16:35:01 UTC

He destroyed the empire

2017-06-29 16:35:08 UTC

Because of the cost of the war

2017-06-29 16:35:17 UTC

He knew he couldn't afford it

2017-06-29 16:35:22 UTC

suppose the Empire continued to exist though

2017-06-29 16:35:29 UTC

wouldn't it just collapse some other way?

2017-06-29 16:35:44 UTC

Eventually it might but he helped speed that up quite a bit

2017-06-29 16:36:04 UTC

if the Axis had won, I can't imagine the British Empire having the same respect and credibility it did pre-war

2017-06-29 16:36:16 UTC

Axis wouldn't have "won"

2017-06-29 16:36:28 UTC

They would've taken parts of Eastern Poland

2017-06-29 16:36:35 UTC

And likely not even Alsace-Lorraine

2017-06-29 16:36:37 UTC

France too right?

2017-06-29 16:36:46 UTC

Casualties would be a few hundred thousand at best

2017-06-29 16:36:49 UTC

For the war

2017-06-29 16:36:49 UTC

i imagine some of what used to be the Holy Roman Empire

2017-06-29 16:37:01 UTC

since that was more or less Germany with some wiggle room

2017-06-29 16:37:30 UTC

Hitler stated on numerous occasions that he had no intention of expanding in the west

2017-06-29 16:37:39 UTC

France didn't even want to declare war

2017-06-29 16:37:49 UTC

They were pressured into doing it by the brits

2017-06-29 16:37:58 UTC

That's why the phony war existed

2017-06-29 16:38:22 UTC

wait a minute

2017-06-29 16:38:26 UTC

They didn't put up much of a fight and the civillian population living under occupation didn't mind it all that much

2017-06-29 16:38:27 UTC

phony war?

2017-06-29 16:38:32 UTC

Yes?

2017-06-29 16:38:52 UTC

Between 1 september 1939 and when Hitler invaded France

2017-06-29 16:38:57 UTC

That's called the Phony War

2017-06-29 16:39:06 UTC

i dunno, i think people would be reasonably pissed with the invasion of Poland and the night of broken glass

2017-06-29 16:39:17 UTC

tfw you sippin on the last of the mornin drank and the nutmeg hits

2017-06-29 16:39:26 UTC

no.

2017-06-29 16:39:36 UTC

Hitler told Britain that he would pull out of Poland except Danzig if they made peace

2017-06-29 16:39:44 UTC

He legit didn't believe they would declare war

2017-06-29 16:40:14 UTC

And the poles resisted the reasonable german demands
