Birthday drinks saam @Willem Petzer ons maak op vir gister se bday. Brannas en coke

2018-08-18 19:43:25 UTC

A bit of help required - in his recent debate with the EFF chap, William mentions that a black engineer with 5 years experience out-earns a white engineer with the same. I'm trying to find a source on this to use in another video.

2018-08-18 20:30:09 UTC

dont have a source but I do have a reason, generally black engineers can demand more (and they do) because they're in massive demand due to BEE.

2018-08-18 20:30:37 UTC

corporates are hungry for black workers to boost their BEE ratings

2018-08-18 20:34:59 UTC

@Bird_Goes_Beep. His dad is a engineer. If you look at state owned companies, which are more dominated by black people they employ (BBBEE) and promote them very quick ,hence why so many are in positions they don't belong,my dad worked for eskom he saw this first hand. In the private sector(dominated more by whites) it's different but they still have BEE regulations that force them to employ/promote people of colour, but less than state owned companies i would say.

2018-08-18 20:35:53 UTC

Ah, damn. I was hoping for a study or citation I could use.

2018-08-18 20:35:57 UTC

Thanks regardless.

2018-08-18 21:08:48 UTC

I'm an engineer and within state owned companies this is the truth, white men don't get promoted. So that is why most of us leave the country for better jobs in markets where your skin colour has no influence on your value to a company.

Oh, I'm sure it's true - I have friends and family who have similar anecdotes. I just don't want to say anything in a video that I cannot back up easily.

2018-08-18 21:12:31 UTC

@Bird_Goes_Beep i believe this kind of study won't even be undertaken by the social 'sciences' researchers for fear of being excommunicated from their research communities...

2018-08-18 21:12:48 UTC

I'd believe that.

2018-08-18 21:15:06 UTC

@Bird_Goes_Beepmake your video about BBBEE rather than just the one thing willem said. How it discrimates againsts the minority etc etc.

2018-08-18 21:15:47 UTC

It's an idea. I'm actually doing an analysis of a debate between Ernst Roets and Andile from the BLF.

2018-08-18 21:16:37 UTC

Maybe you could contact ECSA (engineering Council of South Africa) maybe they have figures on the amount of members emigrating. Since they also keep track of their member's race maybe that would be insightful. What I can say is that of my Class of graduates (2004) just about all of them including me are working overseas

2018-08-18 21:17:43 UTC

Yes thats a good idea, they should have data.

2018-08-18 21:17:53 UTC

That's an excellent idea, thanks.

2018-08-18 21:20:10 UTC

@Bird_Goes_Beepugh my brain hurts when watching those blf people, there is no intellectual capacity, just a hollow head. I call them #PeaBrains

2018-08-18 21:22:30 UTC

Oh you are going to love this. A few requests to cover it over the last while since I did the other Roets /BLF debate and this one is even crazier.

2018-08-18 21:22:46 UTC

Seriously, old Mingey is both terrifying and a lolcow.

2018-08-18 21:24:45 UTC

On the ECSA members not all graduates register for membership since many of the new graduates emirates promptly after receiving their degree since most of the universities still conform to the Washington accord engineering degrees are recognised in many other countries and they could just as easily apply for professional registration in their new country.

2018-08-18 21:25:50 UTC

A friend of mine got a bursary from Transnet, with the condition that he work for them for 5 years (I think) after graduation. He will attest to just how much bullshit it is.

2018-08-18 21:26:17 UTC

Numerous awards, commendations and increased responsibilities but never promoted.

2018-08-18 21:28:16 UTC

That's why i have my own business. πŸ˜‰

2018-08-18 21:28:20 UTC

Many of these companies even don't employ white bursary holders after graduation since there is simply No space for them within their quota. I worked as a engineering university lecturer for 10 years and have seen this happen many Many times

2018-08-18 21:31:01 UTC

And also many of these bursaries are for 2nd year onwards for 'previously disadvantaged' students since the matric certificate ain't worth the paper it's printed on. So the university's first year of study is used as a kind of pre-screening for bursars

2018-08-18 21:37:05 UTC

You know what sets up many people for failure is the way matric results are adjusted. I don't know if the public at large knows exactly how it works... But basically if you wrote matric in a historically disadvantaged school and English/afrikaans is not your first or second language and another qualifier I can't remember now you get mahala points on your matric certificate. Like if I remember correctly 8 - 15 percent. So what that means is that universities are allowing people without meeting the entry requirements because of a disadvantage and then at university these people struggle (freaking obviously) and then blaming systemic racism is much easier than admitting maybe you should have studied something else or entered the job market hence the rioting sticking and burning around exam times

2018-08-18 21:37:49 UTC

~~not to mention public schools already have lower standards~~
