On the ECSA members not all graduates register for membership since many of the new graduates emirates promptly after receiving their degree since most of the universities still conform to the Washington accord engineering degrees are recognised in many other countries and they could just as easily apply for professional registration in their new country.
A friend of mine got a bursary from Transnet, with the condition that he work for them for 5 years (I think) after graduation. He will attest to just how much bullshit it is.
Numerous awards, commendations and increased responsibilities but never promoted.

Many of these companies even don't employ white bursary holders after graduation since there is simply No space for them within their quota. I worked as a engineering university lecturer for 10 years and have seen this happen many Many times
And also many of these bursaries are for 2nd year onwards for 'previously disadvantaged' students since the matric certificate ain't worth the paper it's printed on. So the university's first year of study is used as a kind of pre-screening for bursars
You know what sets up many people for failure is the way matric results are adjusted. I don't know if the public at large knows exactly how it works... But basically if you wrote matric in a historically disadvantaged school and English/afrikaans is not your first or second language and another qualifier I can't remember now you get mahala points on your matric certificate. Like if I remember correctly 8 - 15 percent. So what that means is that universities are allowing people without meeting the entry requirements because of a disadvantage and then at university these people struggle (freaking obviously) and then blaming systemic racism is much easier than admitting maybe you should have studied something else or entered the job market hence the rioting sticking and burning around exam times

So not only do white kids have to deal with a seriously shit public schooling where it was clear as day that teachers are told to teach the kids to pass the test (and no comprehension) and BBBEEE acceptance preference to universities they also had to perform up to 15 percent better just to be measured as equal to their black counterparts
I can go on about the absolute shitstorm that is education in SA for hours upon hours, what I can say is if I had a child in school in SA I would seriously consider private schooling or overseas boarding school. I have seen so many intelligent young folks who have been miserably let down by education systems in SA that it is truly heartbreaking...

@KoueKoffie thats why we have curo schools now popping up everywhere in SA. One of my friends worked with them to design the schools.
All I can say is if you have kids investigate the school they are in make sure they get a proper education, and most important of all educate your own kids at home as well! Provide them with the gift of being enquiring. Buy them an old scrapper motorcycle that they have to fix themselves... Enable them

@KoueKoffie however beautiful Germany is, SA still remains my number 1. It's just so terribly sad that we have all the other shit going on here. My wife and I have been thinking for a while now of moving to Germany (she is from there), but I am in 2 minds... I don't know if it would be easy to adapt, because the culture and people are very different to what I'm used to here.
The rural German people's culture is actually not that different from Afrikaners.
