well Judaism accounts for less than 3% of the US population

2019-02-19 23:42:18 UTC

isn't Judaism is the only religion that advocates circumcision for religious reasons?

2019-02-19 23:42:35 UTC

Circumcision is a social norm in the US

2019-02-19 23:43:03 UTC

right but not for religious reasons

2019-02-19 23:44:36 UTC

Islam does as well, kind of, but my personal research seems to say it's not actually mandated as such, just recommended, and Muhammad was circumcised

2019-02-19 23:45:16 UTC

I'm trying to find some numbers on 'reasons' for circumcision, but I guess they don't even ask?

2019-02-19 23:45:34 UTC

found some stats that circumcision is in decline in the US, which is nice

2019-02-19 23:45:54 UTC

but still about 50% of newborns are being circumcised according to the CDC

2019-02-20 01:12:49 UTC

0.7% Reduction of UTI risk in boys, from 1.8% to 1.1%. The UTI risk in girls in 6.6%

2019-02-20 01:17:52 UTC

Protection from Penile Cancer, which occurs at a rate of .0014% Each year

2019-02-20 01:18:40 UTC

Help protect women from HPV, which with Gardasil is now irrelevant

2019-02-20 01:21:13 UTC

Phimosis, Balanitis and balanoposthitis are numbers I do not know

2019-02-20 01:22:16 UTC

But even with a complication rate of circumcision on the extreme conservative side of 2% I do not see this being a net positive like doctors claim.

2019-02-20 01:23:06 UTC

It prevents those because they are conditions that can't exist without a foreskin afaik, but generally we don't tend to remove functioning parts of the human body if they dont act exactly as intended, we treat them

Edit: just to be clear for anyone reading I was refereeing to the phimosis and ballentitis part of the list

2019-02-20 01:23:54 UTC

Obviously I'm going to agree with you being where we are, most of these conditions do not even require any antibiotics, just TLC and careful washing to resolve.

2019-02-20 01:25:42 UTC

Phimosis occurs in .6% of boys by their 15th birthday

2019-02-20 01:29:23 UTC

To me the 100% of boys who go through an invasive, painful surgery needs some clear HIGH numbers to justify it's continued practice. None of these afflictions are life-threatening in any way to warrant going under the knife.

2019-02-20 01:30:41 UTC

especially at such a young age with no consent and zero symptoms

2019-02-20 01:31:03 UTC

Somehow when you present people with this evidence though, they become violent and irrational

2019-02-20 01:31:56 UTC

Either they don't have a penis, or don't want to believe they've been diminished in any way.

2019-02-20 01:40:30 UTC

I can see how it would be an upsetting thing, it would be to anyone which is why I'm so against it being done so people can avoid that pain and damage as well as the loss of sensitivity and pain as a baby and later psychological damage. But people need to know that they are not defined *as a person* by what someone else chose to do to them

How's this meme I made?

2019-02-20 06:12:56 UTC

That's more than I keep seeing. I usually see 117. Love the message though.

2019-02-20 12:08:56 UTC

I used the higher of the two estimates I've seen. But even then, what are people going to argue. That ONLY 117 die?

2019-02-20 12:09:06 UTC

That'd be a pretty bad argument.

2019-02-20 12:50:07 UTC

We had an idea for a MRM sticker pack. Would you let me use that as one @KnightofNarg ?

2019-02-20 14:37:55 UTC

Sure.

2019-02-20 14:38:27 UTC

I got the 229 Number from http://www.cirp.org/library/death/ from Robert Baker's numbers

2019-02-20 14:39:34 UTC

I plan on doing some 1-3 panel comics when I get time about MRA stuff, since visual is more impactful.

2019-02-20 14:44:31 UTC

I know this is done to combat penile cancer deaths but there are some factors not thought about. Like end of life quality of life concerns that cause elderly men to decline treatment, the advances we'll make in 60 years to combat cancer when then children are old enough, and the current mindset of ignoring men's health issues.

2019-02-20 19:11:54 UTC

@KnightofNarg thanks a lot - especially for the citation. And please do do the comics!

2019-02-21 12:55:35 UTC

That's a victory. We are making progress.

2019-02-21 12:55:57 UTC

Even if only one boy is spared, this is worth it.

2019-02-21 15:53:28 UTC

One kid isn’t enough. Hopefully this mother goes on to tell her other expecting friends about this, and then they tell their friends. Hopefully that one mother has a massive effect

2019-02-21 15:56:40 UTC

Exactly

2019-02-22 22:06:16 UTC

Vile individual.

2019-02-22 22:06:28 UTC

Running for Senate too?
