Materialism is a philosophical position about the existence and nature of the objective world - Marxism takes a staunchly materialist stance on this (that is to say, it affirms its existence and its position as primary to consciousness and not the other way around). Capitalism, however, I think doesn't have this kind of stance. This is what I mean when I say that capitalism isn't inherently materialist.
