It was just like the situation with peasants ratting out other peasants due to jealousy or ideological reasons.

It wasn't even close to being as clean-cut as "hey if you don't work on this farm you'll die. Ok, better die then!"

And the kulak stuff happened mostly in the early phase, 1930s, it didn't happen again especially after Stalin it was fairly absent. The "muh kulaks" case is a bad example and doesn't apply throughout the history of the Soviet system

Most of them weren't even given a choice like that. The purges were sudden and the peasants weren't informed.

The ones that did give their stuff in were informed of the impeding purges by other peasants, not authorities.
