What is Western Culture?

2019-01-12 18:09:38 UTC

Starbucks, I guess.

2019-01-12 18:10:22 UTC

liberal democracy, the scientific method, the philosophical legacy of the hellenists, enlightenment thinkers....

2019-01-12 18:10:48 UTC

and yes, starbucks also

2019-01-12 18:11:00 UTC

pop culture is also culture

2019-01-12 18:11:11 UTC

high and low culture are both things

2019-01-12 18:12:28 UTC

pop culture is the sewer

2019-01-12 18:12:36 UTC

still culture mang

2019-01-12 18:12:40 UTC

If you want to claim scientific method as part of a *Western Culture* fair enough I guess, but that has been under assault for a long time in the academia in favor of things like "lived experiences"

2019-01-12 18:12:45 UTC

Its an insult to real culture

2019-01-12 18:12:56 UTC

Liberal Democracy is withering away as we speak..

2019-01-12 18:13:05 UTC

good

2019-01-12 18:13:19 UTC

Rest of it that you mentioned is imprecise and contradictory in itself.

2019-01-12 18:13:39 UTC

Liberal "democracy" isn't so democratic

2019-01-12 18:13:55 UTC

and neither is it Liberal any longer

2019-01-12 18:13:57 UTC

(((democracy)))

2019-01-12 18:14:19 UTC

doesnt seem to be. the global hegemon is america and its pretty secure. its challengers? not so much. also "lived experience" might be talked about but i dont see it being used in the field by engineers

2019-01-12 18:14:44 UTC

allowing criticism reinforces its adoption and allows it to adapt

2019-01-12 18:15:12 UTC

scientific method isn't applicable any longer to a lot of subjects that are labeled Science is my point.

2019-01-12 18:15:17 UTC

Christianity is almost dead thanks to that

2019-01-12 18:15:35 UTC

the king is dead, long live the king

2019-01-12 18:15:37 UTC

and there is a world outside of America so that is a meek point and an escape.

2019-01-12 18:15:51 UTC

but america dominates that world

2019-01-12 18:15:53 UTC

all round the world

2019-01-12 18:16:01 UTC

its the same story

2019-01-12 18:16:21 UTC

the globe bows to the standard america sets, not visa versa

2019-01-12 18:16:37 UTC

no it doesn't..?

2019-01-12 18:16:43 UTC

Islam has a strong base because its not allowed to be criticized

2019-01-12 18:17:02 UTC

the führer is dead

2019-01-12 18:17:05 UTC

Im not saying we should do the same

2019-01-12 18:17:09 UTC

long live the führer

2019-01-12 18:17:13 UTC

thank god for that

2019-01-12 18:17:30 UTC

Because its just from one end to anither

2019-01-12 18:17:35 UTC

another

2019-01-12 18:18:32 UTC

If we should criticize something it should be done so that it can be constructive, not destructive which the case in the west.

2019-01-12 18:18:40 UTC

islam has a strong base, and thats *it*, lets compare this to the periods of time where sects like the mutazila where tolerated and formed a wider sway...
at that point of time it was dominant and growing, rather than today where its stagnant and in decline

2019-01-12 18:19:16 UTC

You are saying the opposite of whats true.

2019-01-12 18:19:18 UTC

Are you saying Islam is in decline?

2019-01-12 18:19:21 UTC

nor do i see the criticsm being levelled in most cases in western culture as destructive

2019-01-12 18:19:34 UTC

lol

2019-01-12 18:19:43 UTC

and yes, islam is seeing less not more global influence
