If I remember right the "Illyrian" thing was invented by Austro-Hungarians to bolster Albanian nationalism. At the same time also Serbs and Croats saw themselves as Illyrian descendands, it was a common claim in the region.

Albanians are certainly from paleo-Balkanic descent but we’re not sure if Illyrian.
