Soros holds $35 million in convertible bonds due in March 2019. My thinking is that with that amount due soon and if the company is in trouble financially, he is could be influential behind the scenes. I was also thinking that Soros is also increasing his holdings in, and on every sector of society.
I saw a license plate today that said "Buy In America" but abbreviated.

Good question. I will look into it some more... Convertible debt pays a fixed coupon for a set period of time, and upon maturity can be converted into an equity at a predetermined price. In essence, it gives the buyer the safety of a bond’s fixed cash flows but the potential upside of the shares. Because they’re convertible, the bonds can be converted to shares of Tesla Inc. at a ratio of 2.7788-to-one. That implies a $359 per share conversion price for the bonds. Bloomberg suggests the position is small, and it’s unclear whether this is a bet on the security or a hedge. <https://cleantechnica.com/2018/05/22/soros-investment-in-tesla-is-timely-clever/> They get income now and the possibility of converting to higher share prices in the future. If considered small, perhaps my initial thoughts of influence were wrong... I am suspicious of everything Soros has a hand in.
