Is "fedora" a type of atheist, or a catch-all term for atheists?

2018-01-28 09:19:13 UTC

I would never call Nietzsche a fedora, I would call Richard Dawkins a fedora.

2018-01-28 09:19:57 UTC

Most of the scientists I know are atheists.

2018-01-28 09:20:11 UTC

They just don't talk about it much.

2018-01-28 09:21:09 UTC

Not sure if your experience or not but ok.

2018-01-28 09:21:17 UTC

Basically a fedora is someone who's an atheist and they have a smug air of superiority about it as opposed to someone like Nietzsche who was dismayed that God did not exist

2018-01-28 09:21:33 UTC

I am not at all dismayed.

2018-01-28 09:21:51 UTC

But are you smug about it?

2018-01-28 09:22:03 UTC

No.

2018-01-28 09:22:23 UTC

I suspect the smug ones come from less secular countries.

2018-01-28 09:22:39 UTC

Nah he is a bit more light hearthed

2018-01-28 09:23:00 UTC

You'd be surprised. Not many smug atheists in Saudi Arabia

2018-01-28 09:23:24 UTC

Well, countries that have secular laws, but more religious people.

2018-01-28 09:23:59 UTC

"I, a genius, threw off the shackles of delusion, unlike all these troglodytes I am surrounded by."

2018-01-28 09:24:35 UTC

I should probably post more Christian videos tbh.

2018-01-28 09:33:10 UTC

Eh. The god debate is old news and just bores people today.

2018-01-28 09:33:33 UTC

There's a reason why skeptics went after SJWs.

2018-01-28 09:36:29 UTC

They wanted those sweet views not debates. But I'll post it tomorrow.

2018-01-28 09:36:58 UTC

Debates that no one will watch, yes.

2018-01-28 09:38:06 UTC

The internet has moved on to more intelligent things, like making people cry on livestreams.

2018-01-28 09:40:24 UTC

I prefer this old debate about God than ethical CP.

2018-01-28 09:42:04 UTC

But hopefully Mauritian Struggle will be on Adam Racewarski's stream and bring a new light on the matter.

2018-01-28 12:34:47 UTC

Is this a venting place now?

2018-02-05 07:01:19 UTC

Everyday I realize left anti-sjw like Sargon, Vee ,Louis Le Fag, etc would have been ok with this progressive shit if they hadn't touched their vydia and porn.

2018-02-05 07:02:03 UTC

And I stand by saying that fedoras who don't know shit about theology are just as dumb as creationists.

2018-02-05 07:15:29 UTC

Well, I'm going to vent how much I hate it when someone takes something and doesn't put it back in its place. I also hate messy kitchens. And I harshly judge people who wait last minute to plan something for someone else, or getting a last minute gift. Especially if they're cheap about it.

2018-02-05 08:04:27 UTC

You know, to be honest, despite being raised a protestant, I find a central figure for a church to be a good idea. I don't think I could be a Catholic, because the rotting, shambling edifice of Il Vaticano repulses me, but I could see myself becoming an Orthodox Christian or something of that sort.

2018-02-05 08:26:12 UTC

I wish Pius XIII had been the pope.

2018-02-05 12:11:25 UTC

Knowing little about theology does not make you as stupid as a creationist.

2018-02-05 14:56:07 UTC

It does when you're trying to attack religion.

2018-02-05 14:57:13 UTC

It helps generally to have a good understanding of what you're arguing against, no?

2018-02-05 15:08:19 UTC

I think ebowden likes to disagree for the sake of disagreeing.

2018-02-05 16:20:15 UTC

No. I don't think religion is like science at all.

2018-02-05 16:20:49 UTC

Not believing in unfalsifiable ideas is a perfectly defensible position.

2018-02-05 18:24:22 UTC

I'm talking about someone having an opinion or arguing against something when they know nothing about it. The opinion holds no weight or value. That's why I agree that atheists that don't know shit about theology are just as dumb as creationists, mirroring what Old Valet said.

2018-02-05 18:35:17 UTC

The problem with not understanding theology is that theology is often the basis of our societies. Theological reasoning and arguments form the bed rock of most governments even in the west. To say that god doesn't exist due to improbability and infalsifiability is correct. But what do you replace God with? What gives courts or rulers just authority? Even the quite radically secular founding fathers categorized the inalienable rights as being granted to all people by their creator. It's like Voltaire said: "if God did not exist, he would have to be created."

2018-02-05 19:12:04 UTC

That's very true, it's the root of basically all things we believe to be morally correct

2018-02-05 19:37:17 UTC

I'm pretty sure Descartes gave proof of a god.
