I mentioned it a while back so it is time I told the story of the floof.

So a few weeks ago I was sitting on the lawn out here with my wife, and we saw something moving. At first I thought it was some dead leaves blowing in the wind. But it was in fact a tiny floof.

So we investigated. It was in fact a newly hatched california quail.

At first we were going to let it be. But it was too late. It already imprinted on us. Following us around the lawn.

So I said to my wife "While we figure out what to do put this floof in the softest, warmest safest place you can think of.

Sorry that last one took a while for me to find the pics.

Since I'm at a farm house right now we had a heat lamp on site already so we put him in a banker box and fed him ground seeds and ground mealworms.

You can also see in the first pic that it still had it's egg tooth so it was brand new.

You can see in the last pic it was growing. It's flight feathers were coming in on it's wings.

Unfortunatly, this is where the story gets sad. I was taking it out for it some interaction. It really liked people.

While I was carrying it from he garage to the family room it managed to struggle free from my hand, and landed head first on the tile floor. So loud I could hear the crack.

I'll spare the really sad details, but it seemed to make a bit of a recovery, but died the next morning. Very sad.

So it accidentally committed suicide? That's very sad
