Yeah, it's annoying but sadly most embedded systems are proprietary.

2018-09-11 01:15:23 UTC

It's the nature of the beast.

2018-09-11 01:15:30 UTC

I'd spend half of my day on licsensing or related crap.

2018-09-11 01:15:50 UTC

People don't collaborate as much with embedded - it's harder than say web apps

2018-09-11 01:15:51 UTC

a lot had to do with Windows

2018-09-11 01:16:19 UTC

Oh yeah, that's annoying. I worked in automotive IT so dealt with FANUC robotics and others... they're terrible with drivers and the like with Windows.

2018-09-11 01:16:23 UTC

Extremely fickle.

2018-09-11 01:17:15 UTC

It got so bad with Windows changing host IDs with Win 10 that our main brand released a Linux client.

2018-09-11 01:17:34 UTC

Well at least that is amazing.

2018-09-11 01:18:08 UTC

I think behind the secenes most people realize that Window's days are number and working on beimg more platform agnostic.

2018-09-11 01:18:42 UTC

Yes, even Microsoft.

2018-09-11 01:18:50 UTC

LoL

2018-09-11 01:18:50 UTC

They've been open sourcing all their stuff.

2018-09-11 01:18:53 UTC

No seriously.

2018-09-11 01:19:07 UTC

They're moving away from Windows and more into Sharepoint, Exchange, Office, Azure, etc.

2018-09-11 01:19:09 UTC

ya I know about the Ubuntu bash in Win 10

2018-09-11 01:19:17 UTC

Yeah, Linux subsystem.

2018-09-11 01:19:22 UTC

It's decent but still shit.

2018-09-11 01:19:38 UTC

Windows isn't TERRIBLE... honestly. It can be made to work very well.

2018-09-11 01:20:08 UTC

I think most game manufacturers are working on going Vulkan / Linux behind the scenes but it takes probably 3 or 4 years to switch gears like that

2018-09-11 01:20:23 UTC

Luckily I think that they have been working on it for at least a year or two

2018-09-11 01:20:31 UTC

Web app -> Nothing Windows; Embedded -> Nothing Windows but corporate email/wiki/random shit -> Amazing; Gaming -> Only platform haha

2018-09-11 01:20:49 UTC

so I think in two years or so you'll see a lot more games run on Linux on release day or soon after

2018-09-11 01:20:52 UTC

What type of games do you mostly play?

2018-09-11 01:22:08 UTC

I used to play Eve online a lot. Lately I was doing more Ark Survival Evolved but took the summer off of gaming

2018-09-11 01:22:26 UTC

When the weather is nice and the kids are out of school I prefer to do outside stuff

2018-09-11 01:22:46 UTC

But I'm in Chicago and the kids are going back so I'll be looking for something soon

2018-09-11 01:23:32 UTC

That's a solid plan. I follow the same. I'm kind of bored of games. I played 3 hours of battlefield 5 since it's free currently but it didn't keep my attention.

2018-09-11 01:23:34 UTC

I was playing Rust for a bit

2018-09-11 01:23:51 UTC

I can't play FPS games really

2018-09-11 01:23:56 UTC

Oh Rust/Ark seem fun but they also seem really depressing because all that work is wiped every 2 weeks.

2018-09-11 01:24:00 UTC

Or is that Rust only?

2018-09-11 01:24:09 UTC

that's only rust

2018-09-11 01:24:13 UTC

Yeah... Cyberpunk 2077 looks good for the story.

2018-09-11 01:24:25 UTC

but in Ark if you don't log in for a week your shit starts despawning

2018-09-11 01:24:33 UTC

and you have to feed your animals or they die

2018-09-11 01:24:35 UTC

Oh, see that's gross.

2018-09-11 01:24:43 UTC

Yeah that is like an MMO.

2018-09-11 01:24:45 UTC

I can't do that.

2018-09-11 01:24:57 UTC

I like MMOs . I used to play WoW

2018-09-11 01:25:08 UTC

WoW supposedly plays fine on Linux
