what's your advice on olympic weightlifting and powerlifting to build explosive strength?
I'm a kickboxer looking to transition into MMA, so that's pretty important for me
Focus more on power lifting/basic barbell movements for strength, just include power cleans. and then do all of your sports specific endurance bodyweight type of stuff on the mats training in your sport.
lifting is to get stronger, sport specific adaptations come from the sport. strength helps it all
Can do some extra tabata rows or sprints or whatever occasionally if that's suitable
I do include power cleans, they're my favourite exercise :)
Could you give me a list of powerlifting movements to make sure I'm hitting all the aspects of strength?
squat, bench, strict overhead military press (standing with barbell obviously) , deadlift, power cleans, chin ups,
pretty much all you need to worry yourself with
maybe some dips or pushups after benching
all your effort goes into improving your strength in the basic barbell movements which then translates directly into the best athletic potential in any sport
follow the starting strength linear progression and learn it well and do it properly because there's a lot of ways people fuck things up :p
Not to mention all of the overall physical health and lifestyle benefits of being stronger for all people, male or female, or xur, from 12 to 90 years old
You can work out alone just dial the weight up gradually
Start with the bar alone to perfect form and technique first, the weight will come second. Then add 5lbs or 10lbs a week, whatever your comfortable with or what provides good resistance when lifting
