2018-12-11 17:51:42 UTC

2018-12-11 17:53:08 UTC

jesus

2018-12-11 17:53:28 UTC

i only take 2 courses at a time so i just finished finals for those and started new ones

2018-12-11 17:54:06 UTC

good luck on finals week 💪

2018-12-11 18:09:05 UTC

anybody in here cook?

2018-12-11 18:09:10 UTC

yea.

2018-12-11 18:09:13 UTC

cause im an adult

2018-12-11 18:09:19 UTC

you'd be surprised

2018-12-11 18:09:37 UTC

so question: i've been buying bison and elk steaks and everytime i cook them, they're getting tough and dry

2018-12-11 18:09:48 UTC

is it because i'm cooking them like they're beef steaks?

2018-12-11 18:10:33 UTC

i have medium rare on cuts of beef down, but when i apply the same time and temp to bison and elk, the results aren't the same and it vexes me

2018-12-11 18:11:22 UTC

Try a lower temp, turn more often

2018-12-11 18:11:40 UTC

i'll try that

2018-12-11 18:11:47 UTC

seems counterintuitive though, not going to lie

2018-12-11 18:11:49 UTC

D:

2018-12-11 18:12:16 UTC

Grilling or in a frying pan?

2018-12-11 18:12:25 UTC

cast iron on stove top

2018-12-11 18:12:32 UTC

but i preheat the cast iron in the oven first

2018-12-11 18:13:08 UTC

Try medium or medium high setting.

2018-12-11 18:13:15 UTC

maybe i should try cooking bison and elk without preheating the pan first?

2018-12-11 18:13:25 UTC

because it's leaner than beef

2018-12-11 18:13:27 UTC

Do you add oil?

2018-12-11 18:13:44 UTC

yes sir, about two table spoons and butter on top of that

2018-12-11 18:13:51 UTC

for the fat content and to help with the crust

2018-12-11 18:14:05 UTC

Preheating is necessary then

2018-12-11 18:14:10 UTC

fml

2018-12-11 18:14:17 UTC

this shit, legit makes me feel like a moron

2018-12-11 18:14:21 UTC

it shouldn't be this hard. LMAO

2018-12-11 18:14:30 UTC

Its not

2018-12-11 18:15:03 UTC

The lower heat and more frequent turning keeps the juices in. You just cook it longer

2018-12-11 18:15:13 UTC

that's what i mean

2018-12-11 18:15:23 UTC

that's the complete opposite on how i was taught to cook beef steaks

2018-12-11 18:15:28 UTC

but i'm more than happy to give it a shot

2018-12-11 18:15:47 UTC

Cook the elk like fish short time on each side
