that's not "really" the iron giant fighting mechagodzilla
also the movie kept cutting to these shots of people running around IRL with their headsets on even tho the movie establishes the presence of omnidirectional treadmills within the first few minutes
really stupid writing to feel a need to show that connection between reality and virtuality so hamfistedly
they wanted to get these shots of dudes running around city streets and cut to their virtual avatars running around the battlefield
it didn't make sense even within the context of the movie
Wait really?
That sounds fucking stupid
yeah it is obvious gen x writing
no thought given to consistency at all
Seems like clear commercial writing
you'd think spielberg would have caught some shit like that but i'm sure the movie had a team of 50 executive faggots working on it
"The audience is stupid so show them this"
like maybe it's just because i actually play videogames but i did not need that constant reinforcement to remember there's real players behind the avatars
and they could have just showed different people in their little rigs having reactions to in-game events
which they did a few times
but they also put in scenes of people jumping over their couches and running around in public
like there was just a lot of shit that i don't understand except in the worst way
shit clearly written knowing the absurdity of it but done so because the audience will mostly not notice or care
stuff where if you've spent even 5 minutes around videogames you know it wouldn't work that way
Shoulda had a scene where someone runs into a fucking wall
i will say this
it took a minute but i totally bought into the anime ass virtual avatars of the main characters
Looking at shit like vrchat of course it's what they'd have
I'm looking forward to rlm doing a review on it.
same
They're going to tear it apart
It'll be fun
i think we're about to see some serious *shit*
with anime faces
in all movies now
we're finally coming up out on the other side of the uncanny valley
i'm interested to see what the reception will be like for that battle angel alita movie
I don't see that working out well
Even if it's good
200 years in the future, people refer to the CLASSICS such as "ready player one" as the definitive historical representation of gamer culture
i liked ben mendehlson in it
he's a good actor
I liked the lead actor in mud
The other work I've seen isn't much
