Technically not CoC

2017-08-28 17:04:17 UTC

They were playing On The Trail of Cthuhlu

2017-08-28 17:04:22 UTC

Which was a d20 Cthuhlu RPG

2017-08-28 17:04:40 UTC

You can't win at CoC

2017-08-28 17:04:59 UTC

@Wraff you see that new call of cthulu survival horror rpg?

2017-08-28 17:05:07 UTC

my 3000 page backstory has all the reasons why I think those are the same thing

2017-08-28 17:05:08 UTC

Yeah I saw the release trailer for it

2017-08-28 17:05:13 UTC

lol

2017-08-28 17:05:23 UTC

Hopefully it will be good

2017-08-28 17:05:37 UTC

I'm a massive Lovecraft nerd so any new Lovecraft media thrills me

2017-08-28 17:06:45 UTC

have you seen the bugman take on Lovecraft? Documentary on jewtube

2017-08-28 17:06:49 UTC

@Wraff horror games are so hit and miss.

2017-08-28 17:07:04 UTC

I haven't seen it, and yeah most horror games miss the point

2017-08-28 17:07:43 UTC

I enjoyed Call of Cthuhlu Dark Corners of the Earth, but the whole game should have been like the first two missions

2017-08-28 17:07:51 UTC

Lovecraft's horror is a step beyond the jumpscare, hard for many developers to fully articulate it

2017-08-28 17:07:52 UTC

Half of them are designed for pewdiepie and markiplier to act like retards for livestream clicks.

2017-08-28 17:08:06 UTC

Basically

2017-08-28 17:08:40 UTC

I actually ran a campaign through the orignal Dark Corners of the Earth setting for Call of Cthuhlu IRL

2017-08-28 17:08:52 UTC

The video game didn't quite do it justice

2017-08-28 17:09:06 UTC

Lot of stuff they could have done, but they were rushed

2017-08-28 17:10:26 UTC

I think every Lovecraft game since Dark Corners has been in development hell for over a decade

2017-08-28 17:10:42 UTC

They had planned a whole series of Cthuhlu games after Dark Corners relative success

2017-08-28 17:10:56 UTC

Even had trailers for some

2017-08-28 17:10:58 UTC

@Wraff Amnesia DD was super lovcraftian.

2017-08-28 17:11:09 UTC

Yes, it was. The elements were definitely there and it was a good game

2017-08-28 17:11:36 UTC

@Wraff amnesia is horror done right.

2017-08-28 17:11:39 UTC

Still, I really want a legitimate investigative Cthuhlu mythos game

2017-08-28 17:11:50 UTC

And not just gore porn like outlast.

2017-08-28 17:11:50 UTC

If only to satisfy my fanboyism

2017-08-28 17:12:14 UTC

Outlast had so much going for it, but they fucked it up royally

2017-08-28 17:12:31 UTC

They came up with some cool ideas and mechanics

2017-08-28 17:13:12 UTC

They could have made a much more interesting game than they did, but instead of actually trying to make a legitimately creepy and atmospheric horror game, someone said "HEY LET'S GET A BUNCH OF NAKED PEOPLE AND CUT THEIR FACES UP! IT'S SCARY RIGHT!?"

2017-08-28 17:13:41 UTC

Silent Hill was the only survival horror game I ever actually liked. Most of the others in that genre are just kinda dumb.

2017-08-28 17:13:53 UTC

Silent Hill had depth

2017-08-28 17:14:23 UTC

There was a lot more going on than what you were initially presented with, and there were subtleties and symbolism in everything

2017-08-28 17:15:07 UTC

As a horror game, I didn't find it very scary as much as I did grotesque, but the writing was top notch for the first three games at least

2017-08-28 17:16:43 UTC

@Hector silent hill was so good. FUCK KONAMI

2017-08-28 17:17:37 UTC

Konami is doing a fine job of fucking itself

2017-08-28 17:18:14 UTC

If they don't want to give creative control over their games over to what little talent they still have left, then let them die

2017-08-28 17:18:26 UTC

Dumb japs think apps are future of gaming

2017-08-28 17:19:04 UTC

Thankfully capcom learned and RE7 was bretty gud.
