I remember the original Old Man Henderson thread
ayy
how to win at CoC
Technically not CoC
They were playing On The Trail of Cthuhlu
Which was a d20 Cthuhlu RPG
You can't win at CoC
@Wraff you see that new call of cthulu survival horror rpg?
my 3000 page backstory has all the reasons why I think those are the same thing
Yeah I saw the release trailer for it
lol
Hopefully it will be good
I'm a massive Lovecraft nerd so any new Lovecraft media thrills me
have you seen the bugman take on Lovecraft? Documentary on jewtube
@Wraff horror games are so hit and miss.
I haven't seen it, and yeah most horror games miss the point
I enjoyed Call of Cthuhlu Dark Corners of the Earth, but the whole game should have been like the first two missions
Lovecraft's horror is a step beyond the jumpscare, hard for many developers to fully articulate it
Half of them are designed for pewdiepie and markiplier to act like retards for livestream clicks.
Basically
I actually ran a campaign through the orignal Dark Corners of the Earth setting for Call of Cthuhlu IRL
The video game didn't quite do it justice
Lot of stuff they could have done, but they were rushed
I think every Lovecraft game since Dark Corners has been in development hell for over a decade
They had planned a whole series of Cthuhlu games after Dark Corners relative success
Even had trailers for some
@Wraff Amnesia DD was super lovcraftian.
Yes, it was. The elements were definitely there and it was a good game
@Wraff amnesia is horror done right.
Still, I really want a legitimate investigative Cthuhlu mythos game
And not just gore porn like outlast.
If only to satisfy my fanboyism
Outlast had so much going for it, but they fucked it up royally
They came up with some cool ideas and mechanics
They could have made a much more interesting game than they did, but instead of actually trying to make a legitimately creepy and atmospheric horror game, someone said "HEY LET'S GET A BUNCH OF NAKED PEOPLE AND CUT THEIR FACES UP! IT'S SCARY RIGHT!?"
Silent Hill was the only survival horror game I ever actually liked. Most of the others in that genre are just kinda dumb.
Silent Hill had depth
There was a lot more going on than what you were initially presented with, and there were subtleties and symbolism in everything
As a horror game, I didn't find it very scary as much as I did grotesque, but the writing was top notch for the first three games at least
@Hector silent hill was so good. FUCK KONAMI
Konami is doing a fine job of fucking itself
