Immediately upon its inception, the Fabian Society began attracting many prominent contemporary figures drawn to its socialist cause, including George Bernard Shaw, H. G. Wells...Even Bertrand Russell briefly became a member, but resigned after he expressed his belief that the Society's principle of entente (in this case, between countries allying themselves against Germany) could lead to war.

"The first Fabian Society pamphlets advocating tenets of social justice coincided with the zeitgeist of Liberal reforms during the early 1900s, including eugenics."

2017-11-09 05:35:35 UTC

what the fuck

2017-11-09 05:35:40 UTC

how far back does social justice go?

2017-11-09 05:35:52 UTC

this rabbit hole just keeps going

2017-11-09 05:36:51 UTC

"The Fabians lobbied for the introduction of a minimum wage in 1906, for the creation of a universal health care system in 1911"

2017-11-09 05:41:56 UTC

"Through the course of the 20th century the group has always been influential in Labour Party circles, with members including...more recently Shirley Williams, Tony Blair"

2017-11-09 05:44:17 UTC

"Direct or indirect Fabian influence may also be seen in the liberal socialism of Carlo Rosselli (founder, with his brother Nello Rosselli, of the anti-fascist group's Giustizia e Libertà)"

2017-11-09 05:44:28 UTC

of course they're allied with the anti-fascists

2017-11-09 07:11:47 UTC

yeah right, I'm in australia and just checked out the Fabian Society. I have no idea of the foothold they have here

2017-11-09 07:21:12 UTC

I hope they don't have a foothold

2017-11-09 07:21:19 UTC

our country is getting fucked enough as is

2017-11-09 07:21:27 UTC

we don't need those cunts making things worse

2017-11-09 12:48:18 UTC

Social justice probably goes a long way

2017-11-09 12:48:52 UTC

But, the social justice we now from our time, probably started or won more fame during gamegate I guess

2017-11-09 13:46:53 UTC

It's sad we have to constantly remind people that, if social justice was just, we would call it "justice".

2017-11-09 13:47:27 UTC

the power theyve had in past PM's is pretty intense but yeah, I guess we should be glad our climate isnt as full as say the US

2017-11-09 13:48:15 UTC

Much like when we point out to a family member that "medicine that has been proved to work" is called "medicine".

time to post "its ok to be white" in womens bathrooms?

2017-11-09 14:48:34 UTC

That's a smart idea, actually. To stop racism, why don't we just separate white people and ~~coloured people~~ people of colour in public facilities? Different bathrooms, entrances, sitting areas, drinking fountains. Why has nobody thought of this before?

2017-11-09 14:49:16 UTC

Brilliant

2017-11-09 16:09:13 UTC

Who would have guessed that Jim Crow was actually progressive.

The Republicans are wrong to simply lower the corporate income tax or look at a destination-based cash flow replacement. They should instead drop the rate to around 15% and impose a mark-to-market tax on shareholders at ordinary income, perhaps dragging the rate below 15% as revenue improves from other sources over the decades.
This may end up not working as well if their other changes to the tax code reduce revenue too much, but it’s a better option than potentially skirting the WTO regulations
