things can change very quickly in politics

2018-06-17 23:06:32 UTC

And you wouldn't want to go on to have success in the political realm, influencing people to your beliefs, and be on the verge of creating significant change in your country

Only for someone to dredge up something like "X used to be a member of the Y party!"

2018-06-17 23:06:33 UTC

I say this as a massive poltics nerd, UKIP is in the perfect possition to be hollowed out and made into what ever you wanted it to be

2018-06-17 23:06:40 UTC

you just need grass roots effort

2018-06-17 23:07:41 UTC

I am 30 years so not that young. But I am not really afraid of being called far right because everybody who dares to go against EU is called far right

2018-06-17 23:07:57 UTC

also you don't neceserly need to win to infleunce you just need to be winning enougth to threaten the major parties to force them to change (to re gain your voters)

2018-06-17 23:07:59 UTC

Yeah, that's not exactly a good thing

2018-06-17 23:08:43 UTC

As i said, it's a tainted party, other parties ignore this one

2018-06-17 23:08:51 UTC

If you want to get something done

2018-06-17 23:08:55 UTC

Join other party

2018-06-17 23:08:56 UTC

Also depends on your voting system

2018-06-17 23:09:08 UTC

The far right thing ? I know but how long will this stigma hold back the majority for voting for this party

2018-06-17 23:09:29 UTC

also the UK might be about to get rid of the house of Lords, which would be replced with a more represetive elected body, this would allow for more populist frinch parties greater ability to win

2018-06-17 23:10:00 UTC

a labour MP Frank Fields (one of the few non leftists ones) has submited a bill to give us a senate.

2018-06-17 23:10:00 UTC

@Crypto MJM
The party leader was condemned in 2004 for racism, it won't go away anytime soon

2018-06-17 23:10:13 UTC

Things are pretty bad in Belgium Highest tax rate in Europe, lowest pension funds

2018-06-17 23:10:32 UTC

normaly it wouldn't sucseed but with the frustration of brexit and labour being far left, I could see it getting the votes.

2018-06-17 23:10:41 UTC

I have a strong suspicion that if this party started to gain momentum that they would fracture, due to half their party wanting to 'rehab' the image and the other half wanting to 'stay true' to the pary's founding roots

2018-06-17 23:11:09 UTC

Pretty sure Jobbik over in Hungary are already doing that

2018-06-17 23:11:41 UTC

Jobbik is weird though

2018-06-17 23:11:48 UTC

it's not like a normal populist party

2018-06-17 23:12:08 UTC

it's allways had wierd race views like pro turk pro islam

2018-06-17 23:12:23 UTC

it's so anti liberal it's pro islam

2018-06-17 23:12:25 UTC

@Fulcrum010 I understand what you mean, but I think that was Filip de winter , Now the party has a new front and leader Tom Van Grieken

2018-06-17 23:14:39 UTC

Senate institution is overrated

2018-06-17 23:14:50 UTC

@Reaps The NVA is the biggets party at the moment in Belgium but they have most of their votes from Vlaams Belang and after they got the chance to proof them selves they didn't deliver, contrary they did everything they said they wouldn't.

2018-06-17 23:15:22 UTC

literally, Senate is an offspring of the lords chamber

2018-06-17 23:15:23 UTC

Welcome to the world of politics 👌

2018-06-17 23:17:00 UTC

Their is even some kind of unwritten rule between parties trying to silence the party and will try to form all sorts of coalitions to exclude them taking office

2018-06-17 23:17:27 UTC

yes it is my point was rather the senate is not likly to be FPTP it is likly to be STV /AV or MMR

2018-06-17 23:17:36 UTC

Did they, too, run on a populist platform?

Because it's a problem I often see with populist parties; populism itself is often short-term and subject to change almost impulsively, which makes it particularly difficult to forge clear working principles and policy around

To take things to their extreme examples, there are plenty of cases where someone uses the state to take things away from their citizens, whilst continuing to yammer on about 'the people'

I might look into it more later, but colour me skeptical for the time being

2018-06-17 23:18:12 UTC

Interesting discussion nonetheless

2018-06-17 23:18:27 UTC

populism is gay

2018-06-17 23:21:26 UTC

They are the party predicting all the problems we know anno 2018 and they are warning us for over 15 years now. The problems we have of radicalisation in big parts of Brussels was predicted by this party. We also have a divided country with 50% speaking French and 50% speaking dutch . But the dutch part needs to support the french part , where it is mostly socialists in power so it is a huge money pit we have overthere

2018-06-18 00:08:50 UTC

Populism is the way of the world. It can be a good thing or a bad one.

2018-06-18 00:54:55 UTC

National Populist Party of Germany. Lets do this

2018-06-18 00:55:02 UTC

Time for a fourth reich

2018-06-18 00:55:06 UTC

My bad fifth

2018-06-18 00:55:15 UTC

Cause merkel and the EU is teh fourth

2018-06-18 01:00:38 UTC

Merkel Is the Destroyer of nations

2018-06-18 01:02:51 UTC

we should unite and start a European Libertarian party , there are probally people from all over active overhere and mostly they are better at understanding ideologies and debating them
