Selling the Council Houses :/
It would have worked if replacement council houses were built as tenants bought the existing ones - but nobody did, and now there is the joke known as "affordable" housing.

it "free" housing for the poor, but as it poor people live there they thend to not take good care of it. so the value of said houses plummet and it seen for by most people as a bad investment

you have "private" company's that rent out to the Councils here as well as public owned but they tend to overcharge the rent as in most cases when someone move out of the housing it need a full refurbishment from all the damage done to it
The problem, as one might expect with government restructures, they managed to clusterfuck it for the working people... affordable housing is not affordable, and singles with full-time work can't get into housing association property very easily.
Then you find out that 75% of MP's are private landlords, and suddenly the extortionate prices continuing makes an awful lot of sense.
We had a new section 8 plan denied by the city because it would have been short 2 parking spots...
and to add fuel to the fire a lot of places that have a high pressure on the housing marked you have borderline unrestricted immigration on top of it

immigrants all want the big cities, not the Outer Hebrides... migrants allocated to Scotland often filter down into the big cities - they would need to integrate if they stayed scattered.
