To be honest, and I'm as responsible for this as much as anyone else, this whole eclipse activism seems very nebulous to me. I can't quite get my head around it with any concision and therefore I don't even know how we could go about getting our shit together for it.

I think the banners would work on the weekend leading up to the eclipse, not on the actual day of, trying to target press as they arrive, leaflets of hotels, parking lots, etc.
On the day of the eclipse would simply be about the invocation & fellowship. I suppose we would need to make a weekend of it... have a few hotel rooms rented out, fellas arrive do activism over a 1-2 day time period & then gather for actual eclipse.
