https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2018/09/eu-lawmakers-disciplinary-action-hungary-180912112849564.html I feel a second Article 50 on the horizon if the EU don't tread carefully now

Hungary isn't in a position to leave the EU

2018-09-14 12:27:25 UTC

Sure they are. They aren't exactly surrounded by member nations.

2018-09-14 12:34:46 UTC

and the leader is crazy enough to do it and have the support of his people. if he spins this right they are going to demand him to do it. EU did just go run in to a minefield with no clear way out

It gets worse if you look at Democrats that lost their jobs cus Trump won and then Google hired them

These people can't code

@Fitzydog sorry for the late response. Regarding Hungary's position,

As an economy they aren't strong enough to exit the common market, as around 79% of its trade is with EU countries. Germany is it's main trading partner receiving 26% of its exports and 27% of imports, followed by other EU members states. As you stated it does indeed border non EU states, such as Serbia and Ukraine, non of which offer a strategic position, nor represent important trade partners (Ukraine being 1.5% of exports and 1.3% of imports, and Serbia 0.98% exports and 0.68% of imports)
Leaving the common markets would mean having to pay the additional import/export tariffs as well as losing the right to free movement of capital and people, something critical for the Hungarian economy, as a large part of its workforce relies on migration, and much of its foreign direct investment is fuelled by its presence in the EU.
Moreover, Hungary receives large amounts of financial support from the EU to develop its infrastructure ( โ‚ฌ4.55 billion in 2016) and contributing only โ‚ฌ924.32 Million to the EU budget.
