Story time.

So. Yesterday during the start of my shift I had a young boy try to pay with scottish money. Call me uncivil but I had never seen a scottish note in my life, nay I didn't even know they had their own money. So playing it safe I rejected.

Later on in the evening I got a call from a very angry scott telling me what I did was illegal. I explained that I wasn't aware that scotland had its own currency which can be used throughout the UK, apologized, thanked him for educating me and assured him it wouldn't happen again. However, it became very apparant this bloke was not interested in resolving the issue but conflating it.

"Have you seen the news with Starbucks kicking out black people? You're no better, you were discriminating against my son because he's Scottish." Which is totally unfounded because his son was still served regardless. I tried to assure him that the store does not discriminate and that my coworkers include a Hindu Indian, Italian and Gay Cathlic Englishwoman. But he just wouldn't have it, he called me a fascist, bigot, racist the fucking works.

I didn't want to, nor have to, deal with his shit so I asked him to get a pen and paper and I'd give him the manager's number. "No, I'm in a car park.".... Right okay. So I asked to take his number and pass it onto the manager. He refused, saying I sound like a "psychotic weirdo" and just continued to hurl abuse. In the end I put the phone down on him, told my manager the whole story and she said if he makes a complaint or kicks up a fuss again in the future she'll report him for harassing her staff.
